cpu speed keeps slowing down

Post by InspectahACE »

For some reason..when i put my other 2 gigs of ram back into my rig (was running 2Gb for a little while) and i noticed something strange..i see my cpu running a full ghz slower than it should be,..at least that's what cpu-z was saying..i know the speedstep is off..but im not sure whats doing it now..it goes back up to 2.6 when i run ati tool or a game...but it should be at 2.6 the whole time..im sure im just blind and missed something in the bios but i figured after 45 minutes of looking i better just ask someone here to have a giggle at my brain fart

try disabling all of your cpu features such as speed step, c1e and everything else in that menu except for execute disable bit

Make sure that C1E is turned off also.

Is there some particular reason that you are wanting it turned off? Why not leave it enabled and enjoy the lower power consumption, lower heat out-put, and longer life the cpu will have by not running full speed all of the time?
I see on a lot of forums where people are disabling this feature which really makes no sense to me whatsoever. I'm pretty sensitive to speed changes on the desktop and the only place I notice a difference is during boot up. :-k

I want it off due ot the fact that last time it was one..my games ran half speed..meaning i wasn't getting 60 fps...wanna make sure i get all the frames with no worries..my power bill is up to $400 a month anyway...its summer in Vegas..wont see a dent in bill even with computer off lol..that and i bought a cpu to run at 2.6...not 1.6 :P..thanks for the concern of my cpu's welfare though Bwall :)...i did disable the speedstep..but i couldn't find the C1E which was what I was looking for..guess ill look again...new mobo...different locations of options in bios i guess..I know the C1E would do it..just gotta find it lol..

edit: whats even weirder..I cant find the C1E option anywhere...even more weird is that, this happened once i put an extra 2 GB ram in...doesn't even say if there is C1E in the manual either

Emailed MSI's tech support since I couldn't find any C1E option. They told me to update the bios which i did and clear the cmos which i did as well..minor things really..still nothing....as I mentioned to them..It's not an issue of saving power..it's the fact that I want my cpu running full speed regardless of what im doing..

Why? What is the point? You don't run your hot water on full blast all the time. You turn it on when you need it.

great point...but i also don't use the hot water as much as my computer ;) my video card pulls way more power than my cpu anyway and that slows down on its own so that's enough for me..and last time i used C1E was for a short period when I put my rig together for the first time, it seriously made everything slow and regardless of its improvements through time, I don't WANT it on..I live in Vegas..My $400 power bill(running the a/c) wont budge whether my cpu is loaded or not.I paid $600 for this cpu when it first came out..i would hope to and better get my full 2.6 ghz whether I want it or not

I fixed it...MSI tech support is really lame, today they were anyway. I asked about the C1E and they say its in the cell menu when it wasn't at first..updated the bios, still wasn't there..Tech says its set to off by default..ok, still downclocking anod not visible in bios. Tech then says its a hidden option Intel wanted hidden..which was laughable, since before I read that reply, I had found it and turned it off. still weird it magically appeared though..I rebooted into the bios 5 minutes before I turned the C1E off and that option wasn't there..and then poof there it is..and that was also before the tech said it was hidden
