I need help bad. I just got thru putting together this machine with 2GB DDR2-533 PC2-4200 memory. Just to add facts I have a SATA hard drive, floppy, card reader, CD, CDRW, modem and ADD2 card. No other hardware is installed.
I can tell from your expert post that this CPU has a heating problem, I sure hoped by now it would be corrected.
I installed the latest BIOS update from Intel. My BIOS CPU temp is running 171 degrees before windows boots up. The Intel Desktop utilities reports a much lower temp ranging between 140 and 165, Intel tech tells me these should be about the same? And and much lower!
My question do you think if I ordered a better heat sink and fan can I get this temperture down to a manageable level?
Do you think that Intel will correct this problem eventually?
Can someone recommend the best heatsink and fan for this unit.
I have this in a Raidmax box with 420W power supply with a 120 fan in the rear and 80 on the side, do you think I need to install one in the front? And can this box pass for a Thermal Advantage Chassis? (as per INTEL)?
Sorry for so many questions. I ordered all this from Zip Zoom Fly and I do not think they will give me my money back, if I can not get this heat down!
Thanks, I would really appreciate any suggestions or help I can get!!

I know nothing much about Intel CPUs and HSF. But I do know a bit about cooling. The first question is what is your Case/MoBo temp. That has a direct effect on the CPU temp. Right off the top of my head I would put at least one fan up front to bring in some fresh air to your system. With that 120 in the rear, it is pulling out all the air befor it has a chance to get to your CPU.

IMHo your case temp should be within a few degrees C of your room temp if you have good case cooling. If your room temp is 24c them I would think that 25-27c would be a good case temp. With my system, my room temp is 26c right now and I have a case temp of 26c. I'm a little extreme on my cooling though, as I'm ruiining 6 80mm case fans plus the PSU fans and my system is water cooled (CPU and GPU).
So drop another fan or 2 in your case if the noise doesn't bother you.
