Overclocked CPU's, estimated life??? say E6400 at 3ghz?
ok so wats a Overclocked CPU's, estimated life??? say E6400 at 3ghz?
or if u want to take extream overclocking a E6400 at 3.8ghz (this is for example)so pretty much overclocked to the max while still stable how long do u think they'll last before they jst die(years, months, days?)?
so jst generally 2 questions kinda
1. ok so wats a Overclocked CPU's, estimated life for a modirate overclock say a E6400 at 3ghz
2. and second a Overclocked CPU's, estimated life for a extreame overclock max until unstable say somewhere between 3.4ghz-3.8ghz(depending on ur cpu)

Even 3Ghz on a C2D its too much for now.. I mean what are you going to do to need so much speed and damage your chip in the long run?
Besides power consumption rises alot too. It's better to leave high overclocking for a few years, when it will be really needed.
Anyway, you could always uses an OC tool to overclock just when needed from inside your operating sytem.
Maybe your motherboard has one or you could use clockgen.

IMHO a 3 GHz OC is just fine, you may lose a bit off the overall life span of the CPU, but folks normally don't keep them all that long any how. As long as you've got good cooling you should be fine, I run my poor little E4300 at 3.431 all the time, I may drop it to 3.2 from time to time depending on what I'm doing at the time.
Why is such a 3ghz overclock so worrisome? Conroe was designed with 3ghz as the target frequency, or very close to it. Assuming the CPU runs stable at the stock voltages at 3ghz, then it would last as long as a X6800 would.
It is the voltage above the max recommended voltage (1.325v for Conroe, iirc) and heat that will shorten the lifespan of the chip. Also the heat/component strain can affect various parts of the motherboard itself, even if not the CPU. Keep everything running cool and the voltages in moderation and it should last longer than you will be using the computer.
I have a 2.8ghz Northwood that is somewhere around 4 years old, and it has been running OCed with a slight voltage increase at 3.4ghz just peachy all these years.

well with all this talk about cpu life span how about this for you. i still have intel p3 700E oced to 933 with 1.8 still running to this day and i bought the cpu when they came out. there is nothing out right now about C2D's that shows what oced 24/7 will effect its life at all. i dought you will kill the chip at all at those speeds, the only way is if you were seeing 70c+ temps for 24/7 use.

I had a PII350 at 600 for almost 5 years, and my D805 at 4ghz for about 2 years and no side effects. As long as the temps are ok your clear. You'll get a new rig before it dies. Look on any OC forum, you don't see cpu's dying left and right. not to mention I had a A2500+M that I clocked to the max (forget what it was) but its still healthy. most computers will shut down when it gets to the point it's dangerous. What about people who live in tropical area's with no AC?

There are no moving parts in a cpu its not like the thing is going to wear out. The main threat is heat as long as you keep the temperatures down you can run the thing overclocked almost as high as you want. Hell I just pieced together a machine that has an nforce2 mobo and a socket 462 athlon xp 2800+ and it still overclocks like a champ lol.

E6700 @ 3.5Ghz (air cooled thermaltake 120vx)
I think as long as u keep the temps of the core 2 chips at their rated level (0-60 degrees cel i think) you will be fine and they should last just as long as a stock clocked duo.
AT LEAST FOR MY SAKE I HOPE SO
check out my overclock 100% stable
Mght go higher

could prob get 4Ghz
I prob could get 4Ghz but im happy with 3.5Ghz at the moment plus im only using air cooling (thermaltake 120vx) if i wanted to go higher i think i better get liquid cooling????
Any thoughts?

well thats just my problem temps? more precisely being able to monitor them in vista 64 is a prob! I dont trust the readings Ntune gives for the temps and fan speeds as temps in bios are 10-12 degrees cooler than ntune displays ? also my fan speed in ntune for spu says upto 5000rpm when my cpu fan only goes to 2000rpm?
when i installed speedfan got a virus and had to format and reinstall everything not happy
coretemp doent work on vista 64
what other good temp monitoring programs are there?

Core Temp in vista 64
After all the hassles i went through with speedfan im not game enough to touch coretemp either!!!
Will just have to wait until ntune is improved and updated, save for liquid cooling and then try and go for 4Ghz+ overclock
Just to be on the safe side
