Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 Overclocking

Post by Apoptosis »

Been playing around with the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6850 lately and just wanted to post up some of my results...

At stock settings the processor has a FSB of 333MHz x 9 multiplier, so it's running 3GHz...

The final screen shot shows it running 3.87GHZ with 430MHz FSB on the ASUS P5K3 Deluxe motherboard with Kingston PC3-11000 HyperX memory at 7-7-7-20 timings running ~1500MHz on all the tests. Cooling is being handled by the Corsair Nautilus 500 water cooler and the power is being fed from the Thermaltake Toughpower 850W modular PSU.

Nice chip you got there ;)

Do you hit a wall at 3.87Ghz or the cooling just can't keep up and did you try playing with the multiplier?

You just get all the good toys. But heck, I wouldn't want to deal with the heat that monster puts out.

Pretty interesting results. I'm curious... are your settings prime95 or orthos stable for >6 hours? Also, what vcore are you using and what are you load temps?

Do you think the regular retail production CPUs will have the same range of OCing (notices that an Engineering Sample chip). What has been the usual OC percentage increase on C2Ds (under air) in your experience. I've been thinking of upgrading to this chip and wondered has there been any reviews that compares standard and OC of C2D 6X50 and 6000s series chips.

WOW!!! Speechless... Though the overclocking results you got from your E6750 better than the results you got from this one, but still, over 4GHz overclock is quite impressive. =D> Especailly when one can buy the E6750 nowadays for less than $200 if I'm not wrong... :)

BTW, where do you have all that money Apoptosis to buy these CPUs? (jk... )

Looks good, I am thinking about trying one of these.

I am tired of worrying about can my mobo do x, my ram y and my chip z. I may just go for the unlocked multi this time around.

Have you pushed the mulitipliers at all? I've seen the QX6850 pushed to 12x, which would give you a significant boost at the FSB speeds you're currently running. I've got my E6850 pushed to 445 x 9 (4.005 ghz), and I'm curious what temps you're running at with your current QX6850 setup.
