B-H,
Thanks for the info. I tend to forget getting some of the updates for CPUZ and WCPU at times.

Re: E6850 Overclocking
whats up people
I just recently joined this forum and I had a few questions about overclocking .. since I have an E6850 I thought I would just threadhack and ask here
I have:
Intel D975XBX2 mobo
Intel E6850 processor
4GB of ram
Nvidia 8800GTS card
Zalman CPU fan
and a custom water cooling kit made from Swiftech and Danger Den parts
right now everything is stock but I really wanna make this puppy roar .. I was reading about overclocking and I'm familiar with BIOS but when I look at the performance section its confusing me ..
I;ve read around that people have gotten their E6850's to 3.6ghz safely .. they've said the following: (8 x 450fsb) 1.375v ..
now, when im in BIOS I see where you can change those SPECIFIC numbers but is that ALL you change ? if i wanna get to 3.6ghz do I jsut change the fsb, voltage and multiplier number ? is there anything else ?? I dont wanna mess things up lol so if this targer mhz isnt safe or stable enough I'd appreciate the feedback
thanks a lot guys

Re: E6850 Overclocking
I don't think your board will do 450MHz easilly! You should try for 400x9 to get 3.6spenditifyougotit wrote:whats up people

Set the memory Referfence to 333MHz, Set the ram to 533MHz and start raising the FSB. When things get unstable add more MCH Voltage or vcore.
What RAM are you running with?

Re: E6850 Overclocking
I don't understand why you would want to do that. Unless you are increasing the RAM speed, and by a significant amount, I can't help but think that that is a waste of money (Even if your name implies you like spendingspenditifyougotit wrote:right now I have Kingston (4 x 1GB) .. If it is a straight swap, the 4x1GB modules would overclock better than the 2x2GB modules. I guess they might generate less heat, but RAM isn't particularly a furnace to begin with. Fancy donating the 4x1GB my way then?

Re: E6850 Overclocking
yeh well I was also looking into four 1GB mushkins for my lil beast but im not sure yet .. basically I wanted to overclock the processor, ram and graphics card due to all of the things im hearing about the system requirments of Crysis lol .. I'm not a hardcore gamer but when I find the time to tinker I like to have no lag (lag kills me) lol
my only wish in life is that laptops were as upgradable as desktops lol .. I wish I could throw in a core 2 quad in my macbook pro
.. that would make me a very happy boy lol
so back on track here lol .. 3.6mhz on my processor would be sufficient ?? what about 3.5 ?? would that be a little safer ??

Re: E6850 Overclocking
lol, stick a core 2 quad in your macbook and it would either melt it or zap all the battery super quick
But seriously, its not like you have an underpowered rig, but overclocking is fun anyway!
Basically in good overclocking you don't just set the FSB speed to the max and hope that it works, but you have to increment it by a few MHZ each time and boot into windows, check it works (usually by some quick stability benchmark) then rinse and repeat. When it stops working, either BSODs or fails the stability test, increase the voltage of your CPU and try the test again. If your memory is overclocked (which you shouldnt be doing first time round (so use a low memory divider so that it is underclocked for the minute)) then you need to add MCH volts.
Like Ken asked earlier, we need to know the full spec of your RAM to advise what RAM divider to use etc.

Haha, windows wouldnt boot at 3.6mhz ^_^3.6mhz on my processor would be sufficient ??

If you getting the Quad Core, you won't necessarily need very fast ram though as you won't be pushing the FSB too high.

Re: E6850 Overclocking
***Update***
I've rebuilt my PC and mounted the Swiftech block. My temps aren't as good as I expected, I may need to remount it.
Trying for 4.0Ghz but it keeps rebooting on anything higher than 3.96
vcore 1.5v via bios
Temps - 60C under load
2x 1GB G.Skill PC8000 4-4-4-5 2.2v - 2.3v (Micron D9)
I'm now trying to beat 23sec on wprime 32m test, hence the low sub timings and high ram speed. I'll try for 4GHz again later on
More bad news though, I think my X1900 is dead, I get graphics corruption in the bios and "VPU Recover" keep kicking in when in windows.
I'm currently running with a Geforce 7100GS
I'll try remounting the gpu block later on this week.

Re: E6850 Overclocking
Still not fully stable, but looks sweet
vcore - 1.5125v
vdimm - 2.3v
chipset - 1.7v
Cpu - 60C under load (I think I need to remount the cpu block)
I've tried up to 1.575v but it reboots after a few mins. I've also tried with lower ram speed and timings.
I'll get there

That is awesome and what scores are you getting on benchmarking?

Not much! My x1900 is dead so I'm using a 7100GS gfx card. I was able to boot into windows with the FSB set to 570 but it failed a superpi run.kappage wrote:Holy ****![]()

I've "only" used 1.7v on the chipset, so I might get it stable.
The board is completely un-modded, so I'll have to apply some Ceramique to the HSF's later on this week.
I'm almost certain 4GHz is not going to happen though!
