Hi, I have a intel d975bx2 motherboard, bios version bx97520j.86a. In the bios under ProcessorType it reads Intel core 2 Duo Cpu E6850 3.00 GHZ Intel Em68t capable, then it says Core Multiplexing Technology processor speed 0.00ghz. Is that what it should say 0.00 ghz or is there something wrong..?
Windows XP Pro x32. Thanks for any info.
Core Multiplexing Technology processor speed reads 0.00 ghz

Re: Core Multiplexing Technology processor speed reads 0.00 ghz
Better yet does anyone know what Core Multiplexing Technology even is?
Source 1: Wikipedia says this: "Core Multiplexing Technology is a term that appeared in some BIOSes; some people believe that it is an implementation of speculative multithreading technology developed by Intel, previously known as Core Mitosis to allow for multicore CPUs to act as a single, more powerful CPU core."
Source 2: This picture from Tech Report just shows a single thread splitting between the cores and coming out the same as it entered split...

Source 3: XBIT Labs had a chat with one of Intel's spokesman about "CPU Core Multiplexing Technology" and got this...
“We will support the disabling of one core in BIOS in a future BIOS rev.,” said Daniel Snyder, a spokesman for Intel Corp., when asked about the background of the technology. This means that once one core is disabled, the whole 2MB or 4MB cache reservoir on microprocessors that have shared level-two (L2) cache will be usable by one processing engine, which should boost performance in applications that cannot take advantage of two executing cores.
So this makes it sounds like on single threaded apps the data thread gets to use all the cache if needed...
Not sure what it does, but all Core 2 processors have whatever this is. I wouldn't worry about showing up as 0.00Ghz as from what I understand it has nothing to do with MHz (frequency).

WoW..! Thanks Apoptosis for the info and the time. I should pay more attention to the bios reads. Everything is running ok as far as I know it should. Thanks again .

That is nuts, but also cool, will it be one of those things that just happens when you launch a specific program it just disables one if you aren't using it so the other is faster? what if you launch another program does it just re-enable the other core? Does it work similar to the Speed-Step?

yup it just does it on the fly, so as long as the motherboard supports it as well as the processor it will just work. As for the BIOS showing 0.00Ghz, it seems like TOK found a bug in the BIOS.

This is strange, after awhile I rebooted and check the bios again and there it was, this time it said processor speed is 3.00 ghz. instead of 0.00. If this is a bug maybe I should check for a new bios update.

The latest BIOS for the Intel D975XBX2 motherbord is BIOS Update 2792 [BX97520J.86A], which is the one you said you have... either way no worries as you weren't running 0.00Ghz ;) Just a minor glitch in the BIOS.

Thanks Apoptosis, yes it is running ok

It's not a bug.Tok wrote:This is strange, after awhile I rebooted and check the bios again and there it was, this time it said processor speed is 3.00 ghz. instead of 0.00. If this is a bug maybe I should check for a new bios update.
Symmetric Processing is processing in linear time domain within a period of time. The simplest dual multiplex is half-duplex (AKA one-at-a-time), full-duplex, then tri, then quad...
Frequency is time, time = zero is frequency = zero eg. 0.00 GHz
For half-duplex mode one core is off or 0.00 GHz, the other is on or max-time/max-frequency ALA one-at-a-time.

Ok, this sounds like how my car runs these days...
Thank you for the info.
