Intel QX9650 Retail Boxed Heat Sink - HUGE

Post by Apoptosis »

Intel has introduced a new LGA775 heatsink with its Core 2 Extreme 45nm "yorkfiled" core QX9650 processor. Look at this thing next to the 'old' conroe and kentsfield heat sink... It dwarfs it!!!!!

The new heatsink is a copper cylinder with thin metal fins radially soldered to it, and a 120mm embedded internally illuminated fan. According to Akiba, a switch on the side of the fan allows the heatsink to be set between two fan speed modes, one powerful and one quiet (limited to 35 dBA). What I can't get over is the box size difference...

I wonder if this is the Intel heat-column cooler that was developed back in late 2005 with a certain partner. :-k

When I first looked at the pic I thought it looked a lot like the TT Max Orb, but after looking at the TT site, I guess it's not..............

Crikey! Looks like the Zalmans that have been out for awhile but bigger. I think that will fit into my CM Stacker 830 case :-k
