Has anyone figured out what are good temps on a B3 Core 2 Quard?
I’ve searched high and low on what are considered to be normal temps on a B3 stepping Core 2 Quard processor and all I’ve seen is “mines run at 30-40 Celsius. The problem is 1- they usually have after market CPU coolers installed, 2- It’s a GO processor, or 3- dare I say “exaggerated”
I’ve checked, double checked, and triple checked the installation of my processor, and reapplied the thermo grease, and… my temps “still” run around 55-58 idle on the stock CPU cooler, no over-clocking. 60-62 over-clocked from 2.4 to 2.66 at idle.
I think this processor is meant to run around 54-60 degrees Celsius at idle with a stock Intel cooler.
Thoughts?

Do you have speedstep and C1E enabled?
I don't have that CPU but it seems a little high for just idling.

One of my friends have it.It stays well within 35-45.
Re: What are good temps on a B3 Core 2 Quard?
Also it depends on your country's ambient temp, your room's temp, the ventilation within the case & the type of cooler being used.

Someone had a similar problem to yours a while back and it turns out they weren't attaching the heatsink properly (they were trying to screw the legs in instead of pushing them in).
Are you installing the heatsink like this?
If you are following that completely, and it still isn't cooler, how much thermal paste are you using? You only need the equivalent of a grain of rice in the middle of the CPU, don't worry about spreading it, lower the heatsink on straight and clip in the legs in alternating diagonal, and the heatsink will spread it out for you.

Source: pcstatsNote the four holes in the motherboard around the socket. These coincide with the 'legs' of your heatsink. Lower the heatsink vertically down onto the processor and socket so that each of the 'legs' lines up with a hole. There is no special way the heatsink has to face, as long as the point on the end of each of the 'legs' fits into one of the holes.
Ensure that the black top of each fastener is rotated into the correct locking orientation, with the arrow pointing away from the heatsink, and the groove in the top oriented towards the center of the heatsink as illustrated below. This orientation ensures the fastener will lock into place when pressed down.
Once the heatsink is sitting on the processor with one fastener in each hole, hold it in place with one hand while pressing down firmly on each of the fastener 'legs' in turn. You should hear a loud click to indicate each clip has snapped into the locked position. Ensure that the heatsink is sitting evenly on top of the socket and processor.

Hi,
To answer a few questions,
Yes, C1E is enabled, Enhanched Power Slop is also enabled.
my room temps avarage around 70 faranheit.
Yes, I've installed the the CPU cooler correctly, specifically the pushing the legs down first, then twisting the legs to lock the spreaders.
I really don't believe a B3 stepping runs 35-40 Celsius on stock cooling!
I think 55-60 Celsius is the normal temperature for Quad Core B3 Stepping.
At any rate, I just purchased a Zalman CNPS7700-AlCu seen here: http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/Pro ... sp?idx=155 This thing works like a champ and has a 120mm fan. Right now my temps are sitting at 56-57 idle, fan speed set half-way. Processor is clocked at 2.8gigs.
Thanks

You shouldn't be twisting them after they were clicked into the mobo. Twisting unlocks them.then twisting the legs to lock the spreaders
Oh well, mute point now you have a new cooler.
