Re: just oc q6700
I didn't change any settings except for going from 10x to 13x clock speed. If Intel desktop control center changed settings so be it. Let's see what happens. I'm on test 20. Temp is 68C.

I don't see your cpu voltagevbironchef wrote:I hope this helps. Memory voltage at 1.84, Mch/Ich voltage override at 1.525. Front side bus override at 1.250. FSB@266.

@ ibleet, I just presumed he forgot the X since the chip can overclock via the multi

Re: just oc q6700
Ok, prime test took to long. I went into the bio and did what Ken said. Current processor voltage is 1.35V. Started folding @ home. Go team!
Re: just oc q6700
My bad, I misread your cpu voltage was 1.8 when it was ram voltage...1.35v is excellent. Your temps are still high.
Stock cooler? Heatsink on correctly?

Re: just oc q6700
70C is the MAX I'd want my chip, and that's only for some extreme benching.vbironchef wrote:running folding@home SMP client, core temp says 71C.
You should try keep below 60C
It might be stable now, but you're asking for trouble later on. IF the CPU was stock, it might be ok, but you're already stressing it my overclocking.
If it was me, I'd remount the cooler and use some good TIM (Arctic Silver or Ceramique)
If the temps stay high, I''d lower the OC and get a new cooler.
You have a very nice chip and I'd hate to see you loose it

Re: just oc q6700
yeah you might want to look at a thermal right ultra extreme, or a zalaman cnp 9700

Re: just oc q6700
Thank you for all your help. I went back to stock speed 2.67. It was fun getting a 30% overclock. My temps with smp client running are 77C. Still high, so I guess its time a upgrade my cooler. Your choices are what I was thinking. Fold on

Re: just oc q6700
If you don't plan on pushing that chip real hard, an Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro would do the trick nicely and cheaply.
I put one on a Q6600 with a 3.2 OC at it runs in the mid 50's even with Prime 95 running on all 4 cores.
Then again, I would make sure that your stock HS is installed correctly. Make sure all 4 pins are pushed down and locked into the board.

Just ordered from newegg zalman 9700.
Re: just oc q6700
In the mean time, reattach your heatsink. It can't be on properly with that high temperatures

Re: just oc q6700
I reatached heatsink, temps with smp folding are 69.C Fan is on high. Used artic silver compound. Better, but not great. Should I go for o.c.
Re: just oc q6700
Why rush? I would wait for the Zalman to arrive and do it right. Your temps still sound high though, even for stock cooling.

Re: just oc q6700
i agree, just wait out the few days it takes for the zalman to get there, you'll be in a better position to OC effectively

I o.c. to 3.47. Temps at 70C. Will change cooler as soon as I get it. I hope it helps. Did I buy the right one? Going from 9500 to 9700 is there going to be a big difference? I hope so. Still folding smp client all cores running 100%.
