E6600 and XBX2 MB, 32 bit or 64 bit ???

Post by slickmarty »

I have the E6600 CPU on the Intel XBX2 MB running XP Home and am eventually going to Vista Ultimate and don't know if this CPU and MB support 32 bit processing or 64 bit ??? Vista Ultimate seems to make quite a distinction about which one to install and I am not sure which one to get .....
thanks,

Your hardware supports both 32 and 64 bit. The big difference is that 32 bit applications can't allocate more than 4GB of memory, so 64 bit removes that limitation. I think theorically 64 bit is faster, however, due to drivers and software generally not optimized for 64 bit, it isn't the case.
