p4 overclocking thru software?

Post by martini161 »

is it possible to overclock my p4 thru software? my mobo bios doesnt have any overclocking options, so i cant do that. im saving up for a new rig (much needed) but i still wana be able to at least meet the minmum requirements for the latest games. i have an intel 845 d chipset on an intel 845dpt mobo, my processor is currently at 1.86 gigs (i told you i needed that new rig) 1 gig memory. one more thing, if this is possible is it also possible to overclock other things thru software? i like to adjust my memory times from their current 2.5-3-3-7 thanks alot

The only thing I know of that could clockup your machine is a program called CPUFSB. However, be warned, not all PLL's are supported, nor are all PLL's able to OC'ed. There is a risk. If you search on the web for others with your MOBO that have successfully OC'ed it, then glean from that information.

If you look in my sig, I got a chipset just one step higher than yours; the 865P.

If you can't OC the MOBO, you could pick up a MOBO for cheap that will work with all of your devices, memory, and CPU.

If you're in the states, then NewEgg has this S478 MOBO if your memory can run on it .... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813138079

Or for the same price you could switch to an AMD CPU & MOBO combo using DDR400 (if that's your memory) at NewEgg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813135060

So, about $60 can get you something nicer and possibly OC to boot!

You do have choices available with low cost in mind and performance gains. Shop around too.
