Intel QX9775, QX9770, E8500 Thoughts and Comments

Aftern reviewing the Itel QX9650 processor at 1333MHz FSB and 3.0Ghz it left me wanting more. After sitting here tonight thinking what is next I remembered the Intel Skulltrail V8 test system that I saw at IDF here:

Image

Recent rumors around the web place the next high-end quad core processor as the Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9775, which will be LGA771 based. If you type in Intel QX9775 into Google you already get nearly 100,000 hits (Results 1 - 10 of about 98,400 for Intel QX9775).

When it comes to features I found this on Google...
“The quad-core Core 2 Extreme QX9775 has frequency of 3.2GHz, supports 1600MHz FSB, and uses the server-based socket 771. Pricing will be US$1,499, according to the sources.”
and this on Fudzilla....
# Intel E8500: 3.16GHz, dual-core, 45nm, available in January

# Intel QX9775: 3.2GHz, 1600MHz FSB, quad-core, 12MB cache, 45nm, Q1 2008. Uses socket 771 (for Skulltrail platform).

# Intel QX9770: 3.2GHz, 1600MHz FSB, quad-core, 12MB cache, 45nm, Q1 2008
Looks like the Intel QX9770 will be for LGA775 platforms and the QX9775 will be for LGA771 server platforms. It is also interesting to see the Intel Core 2 E8500 surface. This is pretty big news! Intel is right now moving everything over to the 45nm process with their latest refresh, so it makes since the new dual-core Wolfdale parts are right around the corner... Just a few months away. A 3.16Ghz 45nm dual-core would be awesome, and that is just what the E8500 is rumored to be. The E8500 will have a 1333MHz FSB and if Fudo is right it will launch with a price tag of US$270 at launch. Currently, Core 2 Duo E6850 at 3GHz currently costs $271.00 on Pricegrabber here in the US. Basically in a Q1 2008 there will be a faster part, with a higher clock frequency and possibly a 1333MHz FSB (333MHz FSB with a 9.5 multiplier??) that consumes less energy. There is also rumored to be an Intel Core 2 E8400, which is a 3GHz 45nm part that will launch at just $190. I'm guessing all this might happen just after the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2008.

oh and if that isn't enough check out this nice upcoming processor chart at Anandtech:

Well I guess that sums up the roadmap... Damn these leaks are HUGE!

Take Home message:
- The Intel E8000 line replacing the current E6000 series
- Pricing structure remains the same (it should look like today's prices)
- Other than 45nm technology you are getting a 166MHz faster front side bus and 50% more cache
- 'Regular' Penryn processors Launching in January

Thank god for Google!

doesn't look like any super cheap quad-cores are coming anytime soon.

I was hoping for a bit cheaper Q9450................:(, Guess I'll have to wait and see what exactly the new year brings.

i take it none of these new intel chips will fit into a 680i mobo?

if not ill just upgrade to q6600 or even a qx6850 if i have the money for it :partyman:

Well here is what the new year is brining for AMD...

The 9700 will be more than the Q6600 and I'm sure we all don't expect Phenoms to overclock better than Kentsfield or Penryn/Yorkfield, but I guess we can't say that till we have retail samples in our hands.

Well, as of right now I'm not even thinking about switching back over to AMD, that would mean a new MoBo and and CPU at a minimum (way out of my price range).

I'll be sticking to Intel at least through the next set of Intel Quads...........

Although I am happy with my current AMD system, my next rig will definitely be Intel. Then maybe after that I will go back and take another look at AMD.

Cripes! $266 for the E8500? I may go that route rather than the QX9650. Who needs 4 cores?

The E8500 seems like a great deal.

Here is a review of the E8400 processor. Bear in mind that it is translated from Chinese so the grammar sucks.

yea the E8500 and E8400 are the best deal for the dual's. consider that running 4.2-4.5ghz for 24/7 use is gonna be the norm for them. while it looks like quads will be in the 4-4.2ghz range.

my only question for intel is why no EE dual cores.

no the only 45nm Quads are as of right now the Q9550,Q9450,Q9300,QX9650,QX9770

dont expect to see any current models out now to go to the 45nm process.

Is intel going to release any naitive quads any time soon? I've alaways said I'd hold off till they bring them out, but they just seem to be doing the Pentium D trick (two core 2 duo cores one one die) and then shrinking it.

^^ what go native like amd did then pull a o we are going to release a tri-core cpu cause of yeild problems. it might not be native quad but the fact is even if the cpu was a native, what does it change, good for us? if they did they would have yeild problems, not to mention ocing would be allot worse then what they are now. at least intel is doing the smart thing and working on getting native quad core bugs worked out instead of just ruching them out the door.
