Socket 775 fitting problem

My problem is (if it is a problem) is that after following all the instructions ive got to the point where you bring the cover plate back over the processor, it appears to be too tight for the processor meaning that even though ive settled the processor in the right place with corners & notches aligned when i bring the cover over the processor sticks up at the front & comes out of alignment - not wanting to force it ive not dared to bring the cover right down.

Is this normal or is there something that I'm doing wrong? - I really don't want to break it!! - Do i need to hold the cpu down with my finger? - again loathe to do this as I'm sure I shoudl only tough the edges.

Ive built PC's before but ive never come accross this sort of thing...

thanks

Dellboy

follow the steps in this guide: http://www.legitreviews.com/article/316/3/

It shouldn't come out of alignment! Actually nothing should be doing anything close to that... Not sure what you are doing wrong, but check out the above link.

Placing a CPU into the correct socket fits like a glove. You should not have to force it. Sounds like something is wrong in your case.

although there sould be a little bit of tension when putting the plate on (from the pins mashing into the processor) it souldn't come out of alling ment. the only thing i can think of is that you cpu doesnt match your socket but if youve built computers before than you probably wont do somehting like that

Was in the process of changing coolers made this, thought it might help. When the retaining plate comes down it should set 99% on the cooler, the last little bit is taken up by the latch arm
