Pj's 2.8E Prescott
Pj's 2.8E Prescott
Started this project last Friday...
Right now, I have the Prescott in my Asus p4c800E. The chip also ran in the DFI LanParty 875B with no issues at all. When I first installed the chip in my Asus, I thought I had lost the board. The video went on me and I got a funny smell, and a sick feeling. Anyways, after carefully testing each part, I am back up and running with no issues. I will post some of my initial results and then post back as I go...
Stress tesing will come, I want to see the temps and how the overclocking is for now...

I had already run this one... the heat jumped pretty quickly.... went to 49*c by the end of the 38 second test. WOW! This shot was on the DFI and at default vcore.
After this shot, I tried to go to 260, 265, 270... 260 was fine on the DFI. i then switched out the boards, and was stalled for a day as I tested and weeped over my Asus p4c800E. After finishing all tests. The board LIVES! and I resumed...

I was seeing temps of 36*c at idle with default vcore. I really have not tried to load it yet. Here is a new screen:
And I ran a quick Aida test... I fell on the floor when I saw the Aida read test:
Temps are now idleing at 41*c, and I am at 1.5v.

Sweet job there PJ!
I am really impressed how well that Thermalright SP-94 / Panaflo 92mm Medium speed fan performs as well. I assume the testing room temp conditions were the same as the HSF round up for the Prescott which was 22c. Some people just can't understand that it is possible and I really appreciate the great work you and Legit Review's have done.
Here is a pic of my system running Far Cry demo: here
I would love to see some performance evaluations on HT though. Some people just can't understand how I am mildly affected when hosting a Desert Combat Co-Op server, Teamspeak Server, Teamspeak Client all while participating in the Co-Op game. HT kicks butt and I can't wait till the process has matured for the Prescott and future CPU line.
Again, terrific work guys... you rawk!
Peace,

What would you recommend !!
Goal getting a cute new PC setup that works stable but "OC'ed" just a little bit for the fun of it.
I'm currently planning to get something like this
* P4C800-E Deluxe, Intel i875P, DDR400,
what CPU / fan based cooling would you recommend ?
Considering these options for CPU:
Pentium 4 Northwood 2.6GHz FSB800 (Socket 478) Pentium 4 Northwood 2.8GHz FSB800 (Socket 478) Pentium 4 Prescott 2.8GHz FSB800, 1MB Cache (Socket 478)
I've been watching you posts here with great interest.
I've been having a look at these cooling options
Thermalright SLK-800U and SLK-900U
http://www.dansdata.com/coolercomp_p9.htm#tr800u900u 0.37
Thermaltake Volcano 7+
http://www.dansdata.com/coolercomp_p9.htm#v7pp4 0.44
Kamikaze
http://www.dansdata.com/coolercomp_p9.htm#kamakaze 0.45
Also looked at RAM .... and read a lot ..... damn is there much to be confused about so when giving suggestions do supply a note on recommended RAM.
Other stuff that I got on the list:
Chenbro - SR10303 Net Server, Beige, AMD & Intel Dual ready (No PSU)
(have a look)
http://www.noisemagic.de/home.php?artik ... 401%253D29
Other one in the "contest"
Chieftec - Maxitower, DA-01BL-D Dragon, Bigtower Blue,
Any recommendations for the PSU part ... not less than 400W and low noise.
Of course money matters .... but for that special part .... they're there it it's worth the course ......yeah yeah ... you all now ..... ;-)

I really like the Thermalright SP94 for my Prescott. I also used the SLK-900U and it performs just a tad warmer with identical 80mm fans.
As far as CPU goes it's a tough call. See if you can find a good tray CPU and go from there. Aim at 250FSB and 1:1 on the memory and go with some good PC-4000 memory.
Advice on the memory: Get Hynix IC's! They can run CL2.5 at DDR500. Samsung can't.
Thats my .02 cents
