What Intel set up mobo and cpu is the best you can get for sub 250? Like not stock but, with overclocking. Then whats the best under 350. the new 8400 with the smaller di?

p35 mobo + e8400?

thats like 350. Anyone have ideas for a 250 that would rival the phenom?
I'm pretty sure I'm going intel over amd, but, I was going to wait for the next wave of stuff to make the choice, but, it looks pointless. I might just get a 250-350 dollar setup thats intel. Unless the phenom would be better since I already have a mobo

i have the E6750 and it overclocks beautifully!

I would say, Q6600 with a P35 mobo.Yeah, a quadcore is pricey but the era of multicore is coming very soon if not already.So, it's better to future proof your PC.45nm based Quadcores are quite pricey though.

most people here would agree that dual cores are the way to go if youre trying to build a rig for gaming and general use. unless he's going to be doing video editing or something like that, there's not much benefit from the other 2 cores except more money spent and more heat to deal with

multi cored future? absolutely
but unless he needs the extra two cores for something specific, dual is the way to go

Another vote for the E6750; it should do most certainly fine.

Not really sure how long you plan on keeping your PC. If it's a relatively long time technology-wise, then go quad. If it's just around a year or so, then choose the E6750. If you're lucky enough to find an E8400 going for the same price as the E6750 (iirc, they're supposed to be at the same price point) then opt for that. The E8200 has the same clockspeed as the E6750 but higher cache and a supposedly lower price point but its current street price is about the same as the E6750. However, the E8200 is even rarer than the E8400. As with above, pair with a P35 mobo.

out of curiosity, is the e6600, and e6750 the same processor with a higher clock. Kinda like it is with amd, 3600-5400 brisbanes are all the same

i don't think so, the e6750 has a FSB of 1333 versus the e6600's 1066

Under $250 is a tough one...I would have to recommend the Gigabyte P35 DS3L ($90) + E6750 ($180)...and that is still not under $250, but well worth it. some of the E8400's have been having heat and temp related issues, so now may not be the best time to pick one of those up. Wait a bit longer on the Quads.

doesn't have to be exactly under I'm just looking for some options. I think I might wait since my set up seems to be good enough for now. And I've been wanting to put some more money into my trans am
