Went from 10x muliplyier to 13x on a badaxe2 motherboard. 2 gigs of corsair 8500c5d. Air cooling with zalman 9500.
coretemp reads 176F. OC to 3.46 from 2.66 or 2.67. Ran stress test and all is fine except my dvd drive. Samsung 203b.
Is this a decent oc. and how can I fix my dvd drive?

One thing to add. Those temps are with folding @ home running with smp client. All cores running 100% using 1.06 memory.

Folding a 11.36 per %. What do you think?

WAIT, how did you up the multi? its not an extreme chip? and can you give us the celcious temps? and if you want to stress test and see how high your temps get, use prime 95

80 degrees C????? i'd say thats a negative on the temps!

I downloaded Intel desktop control center. It gave me the option to go from 10x to 12 on the multiplier. I ran that for a few days at 3.2 and everything was fine. I went back to Intel desktop control center and it gave me a option to go to 13. I did that and thats how I got to 3.47. I do believe it is a extreme chip.
My temps are 79C.

I'd back it down or invest in some better cooling... don't what you to fry a good chip... what voltage you running it at?

I hope this helps. Memory voltage at 1.84, Mch/Ich voltage override at 1.525. Front side bus override at 1.250. FSB@266.

Folding @ home is why my temps are so high. I have been doing this almost a year without oc. My temps only went up 4degrees. I'm not worried about temps just yet.

What are your temps at idle? 80c sounds a bit high to me also, even under load. Intel specifies 72c as the max. You stock cooling? I would at least get an Arctic Cooler on there.
I think that chip is supposed to max around 1.5v...You may not be worried, but I would be. If your temps are accurate, I'm surprised you didn't fry it by now.
I just built a quad rig and overclocked it from 2.4 to 3.2. Temps never even hit 60c even running Prime.
Finally, NO the q6700 is not considered an extreme chip.

I am running prime 95 as we speak. I also am folding @ home with smp client running at 100% all 4 cores. Let's see what happens

I'm afraid you're wrong. There is/was a Q
X6700 from Intel.

Don't run FAH when running Prime 95 as well!
Also make sure you are using prime to load all four cores.
You temps ARE way too high btw!!!

LMAO...are you trying to fry that CPU?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you need to run 2 instances of Prime 95 and set the affinity to run it on all 4 cores at once. First instance runs cores 0,1, second runs cores 2,3 or however you want to do it..just don't configure it for both to run the same cores.
And Yes Ken, I realize there is an extreme 6700, but there is also this one
q6700
I did not see an X so I assumed the normal chip. So technically my statement was correct.

I guess I don't know what I am doing. Everything seems to be fine. I don't know about running 2 versions of prime 95 since I never ran it before. Temps are at 174f. so far.

Thats almost 80c...what are you measuring the temp with? Not all sensors are accurate.

Ok, I just turned off folding @ home. My temps. now are 156F, 69C.

Your voltage is way too high...lower the multi back down to 10...drop the voltage back down to around 1.4v...you can easily hit 3.2-3.4 with little to no voltage increase...much less heat. I can't even imagine you had to increase voltage to 1.8v...for any reason.
