This is what i have, Trying to overclock my E6850 to 3.5Ghz or what every you think is safe and stable with my CPU fan, I am not sure what all i need to change in my Bios. I have also seen people over clocking this memory to 1066. Please enlighten me.
Thx

There is a nice little stickied guide at the top this forum you've posted in; It should be able to help you out: http://forums.legitreviews.com/about10789.html
Welcome to the forums by the way.

PS. All PC components are different, and as such will overclock differently, just because someone else got a certain speed does not necessarily mean you will be able to get to that speed also. Luck of the draw really.

Re: Help OverClocking my Rig
I have the same CPU and Motherboard. I started with small increases to the fsb and I got to 3.4Ghz stable on stock voltage. I then had to add a few tenths to get to 3.6Ghz stable while using the stock cooler.
9x multiplier, pcie 100mhz, fsb 400, memory 2.00 (800mhz), vcore 1.4v, ddr 1.89v (no increase).
I did not overclock the ram since it has little impact on my performance and it is advertised to run at 800mhz.
Every cpu, motherboard and ram will differ, so your results will vary.
I did not maintain the 3.6Ghz OC. Although it was stable, my core temps went up to 66c under load (prime95) and I am not comfortable with that. With an aftermarket cooler, it would be better, but I prefer to keep my load temps under 60c.
You can then increase the ram divider, but at some point you will have to add voltage or loosen timings.

Re: Help OverClocking my Rig
wow ibleet thats a very nice oc with the stock cooler! my quad doesnt even get that high under water
thats what i get for buying an nvidia mob
ok back to topic. i dont know about those particular coolers, do they have a fan on them? if they are decent since you have a very well ventilated case you should probably be able to get at least an extra half a gighz out of that chip. good luck and remeber, push it like you stole it! (unless you dont have enough money to replace it)

Thanks Martini,
The Gigabyte P35 DS3L (budget board) turns out to be a very good overclocker (for me anyway). The E6850 is a Go stepper, so it does pretty well also.
My E6750 is a better overclocker than the E6850. I took that one from 2.66Ghz to 3.2Ghz (same 20% increase as the E6850) on stock voltage and the temps stayed under 60c at load.
Yes, I love how the Intel chipsets overclock. Thanks to Apop for the recommendation back when I was building this rig.
Back on topic: With that motherboard, and assuming your E6850 is a Go, then you should easily get to 3.6Ghz. Just watch your temps as I'm not familiar with your cooler.
