New Intel Fan!!!
New Intel Fan!!!
Well after being an amd guy for a few years now, I have switched to the "dark" side. Got my q6600 up and running today, smoked my x2 6400. At stock speeds the x2 only scored 108xx on 3dmark06, the q6600 scored 122xx. Bumped the fsb to 300 bringing my cpu to 2.7 and scored 132xx. Can't wait to see what this machine is capable of with some time and tweaking.

Re: New Intel Fan!!!
Congrats and welcome aboard!
I remember being overjoyed when I finally made the switch.

Yea the dark side isn't so dark, I'm told the dark side has cookies.
Bump that q6600 up to 3.0 and you should be pushing 14000 3dmarks.

Yeah, they do.
But I think someone already ate them all, as I've never seen any.

I thought the same thing.

My current rig is an Intel. It's alright. My next machine looks like an AMD. Nate had done a great review on the Gigabyte MOBO recently. I'm hoping to get an X3 to run on. Sure it sounds strange, but why not be different. Everyone packs the same old stuff of hardware in a box to cool it. I want to be a little different.

Re: New Intel Fan!!!
Although you are tempted to go from Intel to AMD, I owned an AMD system first, so I saw the difference firsthand and it is huge! It would take an awful lot to entice me to ever go back to AMD. (like a gun to my head maybe?
)

Re: New Intel Fan!!!
Intels looking awfully good after a long time AMD run. I used to spend hours clocking the AMD rig. With the Intel Rig it's almost like cheating, bump the FSB, run some stability tests, increase a voltage here and there and wham Stable OC.

My AMD days go back to the 386. So, I'm not a noob to AMD.

Ok, then that makes your decision even more puzzling.stev wrote: My AMD days go back to the 386. So, I'm not a noob to AMD.

I can understand being a little different, but not at the expense of performance, but thats just me...

Re: New Intel Fan!!!
How about at the benefit of low price? Last I checked AMD was still undercutting Intel for price.

AMD cpus should par better than intel for that folding stuff from what I gather. The stanford site mentions optimized code for the AMD cpus.

Re: New Intel Fan!!!
I think that is around from when AMD was beating Intel in the Athlon/Pentium 4 'era'.
You can't beat the intel core architecture at the minute.

Re: New Intel Fan!!!
Even with the pricing difference, I would choose Intel. The performance gain far outweighs any difference in price, especially with the introduction of the new low-priced wolfdale's (ie e7200).DMB2000uk wrote:How about at the benefit of low price? And don't forget about the recent price reduction of the 65nm quads (ie Q6700), now more competitive than ever.

Whoa! Did I just see a Q6600 for $179?

That's what I thought too...martini161 wrote:welcome! when i saw the title i thought it ment intel was switching to a new model of fan on the stock HS/F
I'm a recent Dark Side convert myself (see signature). Q6600 = teh pwnage. Mine's @ 3.0GHz on stock volts (1.325 is the lowest my mobo will go, I think it has something to do with the VID of the CPU being that exact number).
Unfortunately that deal @ Fry's has gone away, back to $259.99...ibleet wrote:Whoa! Did I just see a Q6600 for $179?
