Time for some mad overclocking!!!

Recently we purchased an Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz Extreme Edition Processor from ZipZoomFly just to see how well it can overclock under normal conditions. By this we mean with all standard equipment that any of our readers can readily get from the open market (No ES sample CPU's, hand picked parts, or voltage mods on the hardware)

Test Results:

Default 3.2GHz:

Comanche 4: 75.58
Super Pi 2M: 1min 44sec
Sandra 2004 Cpu Arith: Drystone: 10029 Whetstone: 4007/7113

Overclocked 3.841GHz:

Comanche 4: 88.99
Super Pi 2M: 1min 27sec
Sandra 2004 CPU ArithL Drystone: 12001 Whetstone: 4134/8421

Wow! That's pretty good, cause I heard the Prescotts run really hot.

This isnt a prescott its an Exterem Edition, they are 2 very different cores.

Its a good OC, shame u just culdnt get it to 1Ghz FSB!

Very impresive when your done if you want i will give that system a good home where it will be put to good use

youre not the only 1 that will.... il just have the CPU... i wont even ask for the whole system! :D

First of all I don't understand everyone complaining about the Presacott's heat. I have my 2.8 running @ 3.6 no problems, in a 77 F house it runs 38/30 idle and 41/33 load with an SP-94 and AS-5. I haven't tried lapping it yet so I don't know how much that will affect it, but an 800Mhz increase isn't bad at all with those temps.
I just got a P4 3.2 EE for $500 which included the overnight shipping. I don't understand places charging $800-950 for them. I can't wait to see what this does compared to the Prescott.
After reading the review in MaxPC I wasn't all that impressed with the EE compared to the Prescott, they compared a 3.4 EE to a 3.2 Prescott, and the differences weren't that great, at least not enough to justify a $450-500 price diference

Not to mention too many AMD CPU's ;)

It is good to go from 3.2 of 3.8GHz indeed. But my CPU is a 2.8GHz Northwood (800MHz Bus) and I have it clocked at 3.5GHz (aircooled).

I am thinking of going to watercooling as it seems the CPU can do more

I have your exact same setup (except I have a different NB cooler)... but I can't seem to keep my system stable over 233FSB. What is your memory running at? 2-3-2-6? 2-4-4-8? Also, what divider are you running at 240FSB? 5:4 or 3:2?

When I did that article I was running the memory at at 1:1 ratio so it was at 480MHz DDR. I was running DDR550 memory so this was no big deal for it and was running loose timings of 3-4-4-8: 1T. I was going for highest possible frequency as was not worried about the memory.
