E8400 Issue

Hello all, sorry to post yet another question about my new computer.

I got everything squared away, and checked that everything was well-seated on the motherboard, except for the front panel sound which I just noticed isn't working!

Anyway, I got CPUZ and CoreTemp running, and both are telling me something that I'm not liking. They are showing my E8400 running at just 1.997GHZ. They show 333.3MHz x 6 for the multiplier. I did run CoreTemp once and it showed a 9x multiplier, but every other time it was at 6. How can I fix this?

This first new machine is turning into a bit of a headache to be honest, but I know I'll be happy once it's all up and running.

Thanks again for any help.

Cheers

Sorry to do this, but I just thought of something.

I got the EP45-DS3R board and have it set up to conserve power by throttling my computer when it's not needed...is THIS what is happening with the multiplier?

Here are the screenshots I took:

yes, the processor is throttling. Mine did the same thing when I first built my new computer and I couldn't figure it out for a bit. Once you place a load on the processor, you should see the multiplier back to 9 and everything should be fine.

Yes, this is normal behavior. IMHO I would just leave it as it will help the CPU stay cooler when it is under low load or idle. It ramps back up very quickly and I don't see a performance difference on my E6850.

Thanks for the reassurances. This is the first top of the line machine I've had and I've never had anything like that happen so I was really worried that my computer wasn't as good as I thought. Thanks!
