Vdroop pencil mod wierdness

Post by samsonite789 »

So, get this. My board had yucky Vdroop, so I decided to do the pencil mod to get rid of it. I shaded the transistor a bit, tried it, and it got rid of a bit of vdroop. I shaded it a lot more, tried it, and it got rid of more. Tried it again, even more shading, covering the entire transistor, and it eliminated vdroop completely! Wanting to eliminate vDROP as well, I shaded it even more, tried it, and it didn't fix any vdrop, but strangely, when the CPU is under load, it INCREASES the voltage by about .06-.08. What the...? Did I overdo it?

Well, I've been testing it, and it looks like that weirdness I saw went away. Now, it has about .08 vdrop and no vdroop at all, but no increase either. Is this good, or do I want some vdroop?
