From rumors on the net to other forum posts it still looks like Intel is going to slash prices before the release of the Prescott.
On 26 October, the 3.2GHz P4 will fall to $417, a reduction of 34.5 per cent. Other 800MHz FSB P4 prices will fall too, with the price of the 3GHz chip being reduced from $417 to $278 (a fall of 33.4 per cent), the 2.8GHz version falling from $278 to $218 (down 21.6 per cent) and the 2.6GHz part coming down to $178 from $218 (down 18.3 per cent). The 2.4GHz chip will stay where it is, at $178.

The 533MHz FSB 3.06GHz P4 will fall from $401 to $262, a dip of 34.7 per cent. The 2.8GHz version will fall to $193 from $262 (down 26.3 per cent) and the 2.66GHz release will be priced at $163, down 15.5 per cent from $193. The 2.53GHz P4 will also fall from $193 to $163.

I believe you'll find that they will no longer be producing the 2.4g - the 2.6g is replacing it in that price range - they won't be selling them both at the same price, nor, will they be selling a P4 2.4 at the same price as a Celeron - the 2.4 is history.

That is possible, but I haven't heard any rumors of that until now.

The angle I thought Intel was taking with this move was to reap the benefits of the OC'ing enthusiasts all loving the overclockability of the 2.4C. Bet they didn't sell many 2.6-3.2's because they had budget and enthusiast customers all buying the 2.4c... so with the high demand, I think Intel is just upping the price to increase profits.

But with this move, the Budget customers will be buying the 2.6, and the enthusiasts will probably continue to go after the 2.4. Evens out their orders between the 2.4 and 2.6, IMO.

In the article on the Price Drops I saw, Intel are also re-adding the 533Mhz / non-HT cores back into there plans as a more budget line.

Unavailability of 2.4c has already started.

For example : MSY is one of the cheapest PC parts shops in Melbourne & they had the 2.4c for $AUS290, but they don't have it anymore.

Damn
