I have two processors that I am looking at on the Egg.
Basically, I'm trying to decide if I want to go with a more "mature" platform and stick with the newer Core 2 Duo processor, or go to the Core i7 Processors.
I'm debating between these two:
Core i7: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115202
C2D: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115054
Currently, I have both machines built, and surprisingly they are very close in pricing (right around $1400-$1500).
Just how much faster is Dual-Channel RAM over Tri-Channel RAM?
Which platform would you choose?
Currently I have an AMD64 @ 1.8GHz (My PentD @ 3.2Ghz blew up), so any new machine will be a major upgrade over what I have now. I'm just trying to figure out which platform I want to go with.
Thanks

Re: Core i7 or Core 2 Duo Platform
Have you seen any of the Core i7 benchmarks?
(It'll be a no-brainer when you check them out )

Oh, I have. Don't get me wrong the i7 Benchmarks scream speed, but with all new technologies, I don't want to rush in on purchasing anything that hasn't had a proven track record yet.DMB2000uk wrote:Have you seen any of the Core i7 benchmarks?

Re: Core i7 or Core 2 Duo Platform
Well if you do go for the 'tried and tested' core2 route, will you not wish that you went with the faster machine later down the line?
If it were me, I'd go for the Core i7.

Re: Core i7 or Core 2 Duo Platform
if the pricing of both builds are close i would choose the Core i7 it will last you longer in terms of it will be able to handle things in the future while the Core 2 Duo might not.... plus performance core i7 would be better.
Dell Sucks.... In my opinion anyways

Re: Core i7 or Core 2 Duo Platform
Core i7 all the way. A 920 with a decent X58 board and 3x2GB of ram and you are set for a good year or so. Then just take the GPU option of your choice, AMD/Nvidia CFX/SLI and be on your merry way.

Re: Core i7 or Core 2 Duo Platform
Alright, thanks for the input.
I've decided go to with the Core i7.
