Hi
I have just started to build a new computer with a P6T deluxe motherboard and an intel Core i7 processor. Fairly new to all this and have not built many computers. My query is a bit daft but the CPU has a label on the front after you remove the cap. It says 'Do Not' and thats all. (its over the pin part, not the part you apply the thermal paste. Do I leave it or remove it?
Never seen this before on a cpu

Remove it, there shouldn't be any labels or whatever left on. :)

Hi, Thanks for that, but I should just mention that it is right in the middle of the cpu not on the outside edge. Do I still remove it? I though it might need to be left in case of having to send it back if necessary to prove its not a copy

They can tell that it's not a copy through better means than a sticker.

I don't like the sound of having some paper in such a hot area, so take it off :axe:

Strange that it's only half a sticker though!

Does it look like this? If so take it off, you're fine.

Yes it looks like that. If it has to come off why put it on in the first place? Anyway thanks for all your help.

Most likely a stocking sticker, was your CPU an OEM CPU or a retail box?

It was a retail boxed version, didn't know you could get oem version of this CPU.

Take it off unless you want a melted sticker underneath your processor.

lol I didn't check mine before I put it in if it had that, now I'm paranoid that it might be contributing to my temps topping at 82°C on Prime95. Although that would probably be stupid since the processor probably won't even boot if I had left it on.

Although when I think about it more, I also didn't check if there is a plastic covering the stock heatsink paste when I plugged it in. Is there? Maybe I had too much coffee this morning contributing to my paranoia. :drinkers: lol
