New Intel E2200 CPU, working with ONLY ONE CORE - help!

Hi everybody, :)

I am new to this forum and also a CPU illiterate, so please be patient with me ;)

Recently I had my MotherBoard and CPU upgraded by the local technician in a small Mexican town and yesterday, I downloaded a free 30 day trial of "Performance Test" just to try it and see how much my performance had increased from my old MB and CPU (Pentium 4 - 2.2Ghz) and to my horror, I discovered (by comparing with others results using the same CPU) that it is working with ONLY ONE CORE !!! instead of the two that it is supposed to work with.

My system is:

OS: Windows 2000 Pro totally up-to-date and working great! (I know it is old, but I like it a lot )

MotherBoard: Unknown. Performance Test does NOT give any info on it, but supposedly it is Intel too.

CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core Model: E2200 at 2.20 Ghz

RAM: 2Gb

I can also provide here the results of the Perf. test if needed.

I will appreciate any info that leads to the solution of this problem, so I can have at my disposition enough info to be able to talk to the technician.

Thanks a lot in advance

Bring up task manager and see if there are 2 threads in the performance tab.

I am not sure, since the OS comes in Spanish, so I am attaching a small jpg.

Thanks

Check to see if you have 1 core disabled in the bios.

Also, being windows 2000, I'm not sure if that is normal to show the cpu usage with 2 different color bars for 2 cores or not. :?

Assuming that your CPU is working properly, you should find what you need there to get your second core up and recognized by Windows 2000 :)
And welcome to LR forums!

Thank you very much,

The link you are providing, might give a possible solution, but I do NOT want to spoil everything and NOT be able to boot up my PC again, so I have the following options JPG attached:

My question is if I am on default with Uniprocessor ACPI, I have to change to Multi processor ACPI right?

Thanks again !

That would seem to be the logical choice. I wouldn't know for sure, as I found that page through a quick few searches on Google. Give it a shot and let us know if it helps! I'm crossing my fingers for you!
