Dell is having a good sale on one of there computers systems. which is a good processor for home use (not gaming). want fast.

What are you going to be using the chip for?

If this is a everyday computer you can go with the E7500 and be happy.

If this computer is just for general usage then go with the cheapest model.

You won't notice any difference in everyday use between 8xxx and 7xxx.
Yes, there is a difference but how often are you going to load the PC heavily? Is it going to make a difference if some job is done in more time if you are doing that once in a week?
If not go for the 7500. It is fast enough. Else, take the 8400.

I second this. This will be sufficient for what you need. No use going with overkill.

Work with photos, graphs programs, Microsoft Office and the internet. Watch .wmv and tv/movies from the internet.

for what you're going to do the E7500 is a bit much even, if you upkeep your Operating System well, you can do those things just as fast with a 1.5GHz single core CPU as a 3GHz dual core, only difference is how you're wallet feels

(i've recently gone back and forth between a 600MHz Pentium III and an E7200 @ 3.42GHz, both on a newly installed OS, basic applications were only about three times as fast on the Core2)

if you get into video editing, that is a whole 'nother story, but if the most intense thing you're gonna do is image editing, i'd just get the cheapest thing compatible(E7500) because the most CPU Utilization you're looking at will be in the <40% range regardless of the chip

If you are looking for fast and cheap build an AMD setup. For what you are using the PC for I would also skip a quad core unless it's cheaper (AMD vs Intel build).
