That's the question basically, wIll the i7-930 Gulftown release put down the prices of the entire i7 range of computers?

I'm thinking of getting an i7 laptop and think should I wait till end of March when the gulftown processor comes out or will it only have a slight effect on prices?

Probably a little but most probably not. Intel made sure that the new I7s have a small bump in Mhz and performance so they can offer it in similar prize structure as the ones they are replacing.

To be honest I do not see the i7's dropping in price anytime soon. At least not until AMD's Bulldozer is released.

Intel knew just what they were doing when they released the i7's. The cost of the chips alone is why I can't get into a 1366 rig. Even the i5's are too pricey for me. It's either i3 or Phenom II X2.

Thanks Intel!

yep, even the dual core e8400 still sells for only like 10-15 dollars less than what it sold for 2 years ago. lol

There haven't been much in the way of price drops in a while.

The closest thing to price drops recently are DDR2 (contract price dropped $1 from $41 to $40). lol.
LCD/LED's are increasing soon as well, just in time for me needing to buy one >:<

In retrospect, the hex-core 980x sounds like a bargain at ~$999+ compared to the year or two old processors that haven't dropped in price yet. lol
