Is a core2duo (core i3) worth 80$ more than a P. Dual Core?

My question: Is a core2duo (core i3) worth 80$ more than a P. Dual Core???
I recently advised someone, only using the machine for business, (office programs), web browsing, and games like windows default card games, to get the better chipset, due to the larger L2 cache....(not sure what it was on the other, or on this actually, but I know it's more!)
Was it worthwhile? will it be noticeable in the future? (I don't suppose he will be running more advanced or newer games)....it upped the cost 80$ up to 630 or so from 550, so that's something like ~12%.....(rough).....

Well, I was brought along to advise someone on the purchase of a new laptop.
They were choosing between 2 Toshiba's.
One had a i3 (Core 2 Duo), the other a Pentium Dual Core.
The price difference was 80$.
They are a business / office program / browsing user, so could of gotten away with the Pentium Dual Core. Not being sure of the L2 cache, and of future scalability, I recommended they spend the extra cash (brought it up from 550 to 630 or so, so a goof 15% extra).
I know they were going for cheap (the processors to the manufacturers) to corner the market, so perhaps 80 less was a steal?
Both were 2.13Ghz I believe.

dark you have so many systems yet the one in your signature has a 7600GS and a core2, you can't still be using it
for a price difference in the whole laptop of only $80 thats a great upgrade, when i read the thread title i thought it was $80 JUST between the two desktop CPUs it was a good suggestion
