Intel Core i7 970 Hex-core available!

Post by skier »

it seems Intel made a pretty silent launch of their latest Hex Core Gulftown CPU, the Core i7 970 currently available at Newegg for the Low price of $899.99 a couple hundred dollars off their flagship Core i7 980X's initial launch price, but only $100 cheaper than its current price of $999.99
gulftown.jpg

Core i7 980X:
$999.99
3.33GHz base
12MB L3 Cache
130W

Core i7 970:
$899.99
3.2GHz base
12MB L3 Cache
130W

Newegg is still missing some info like L2 Cache and VCore range but the two CPUs seem very similar with the exception of a locked max multiplier (i assume as it's not an extreme Edition) and being at a 1x multi lower than the 980X at stock

available here for $899.99 shipped

I dont know anyone who can spend $900 on a cpu but not $1000. Though I guess you really dont get much for the extra $100 if you dont overclock.

I thought they were going to drop the price on the 950 to $300 when this was introduced but its still above $500 on NewEgg.

When I read about that it said Intel would do that around August

think about it, thats more money on a single CPU than most people would spend on a new system

Other than it still being in their "Extreme" line and being handpicked I'm not sure why.
