So it's getting released in a few days. Anyone here planning on building a new rig or upgrading?

Tentative parts list:

• Case/PSU: Silverstone Sugo SG05BB w/450W PSU, $120
• MB: LGA-1155 M-ITX (preferrably Gigabyte), $120
• CPU: Intel Core i7-2600K, $350
• GPU: GTX 460 1GB GDDR5, $200
• RAM: Kingston 2x4GB DDR3 1333, $150
• HSF: Corsair H50, $80
• HDD (OS): Intel X25-M G2 120GB (G3 if available at reasonable prices), $230
• Estimated Cost: $1,250

I'm still saving up, but I also want to wait and see how AMD's next cpu performs and if Intel is going to do a significant price drop when they release their hexacore update.


Otherwise looks like a good build. Any reason for the Intel ssd over the SF-1200 ones or Crucial's?

Are your prices including tax + shipping (if applicable)?
If not, some of the prices for the components seem a little expensive.
RAM: you can find 2 X 4GB modules for under $90 (+shipping & taxes)
H50: Newegg US sells it for $59.99 after rebates & free shipping. Newegg Canada has it for $80 - $15 USD rebate. Amazon has it for a flat price of $74.99.

Stability. The Intel X25-M SSDs are tried and tested. There's a guy on SPCR monitoring Newegg reviews for SSD failure rates (and removing all idiotic reviewers). Iirc, at last count, Intel is at around 2% and SandForce at 15%. Given pricing is very similar on 120GB models, I opted for Intel.

I added quite a bit of buffer to some of the prices. Better to be over budgeted than under. And yes, prices include any anticipated tax and shipping charges. The ones that are spot on (e.g. SSD and case) are stuff I can buy from Amazon - no tax and Prime.

Looking forward to the LR review. When does NDA lift anyway? Jan 5 or 6?

I purchased one of the Intel 120gb X25 M SSD's last month and it's up in running in my new system and I'm very happy with it's performance. You won't regret buying one IMO.

Lol, actually, I already have a couple of them. Bought from Amazon during Black Friday for $200ea + no tax + free ship. Still waiting for the 2x$30 rebate, though. Was planning on using them to upgrade existing PC's but haven't gotten around to actually doing it. If the G3 is released by the time I can buy M-ITX SB, I'll go with those. If not, I'll use one of my existing G2's.

Reading the Sandy Bridge reviews, looks like I have to tweak my parts list a bit. There doesn't seem to be much sense in buying an unlocked CPU if the H67 chipsets can't overclock. I'm hoping a P67-based M-ITX motherboard will be released, but so far, the LGA-1155 boards that have been announced were all H67.

Got mine on the same deal and I'm still waiting for rebate as well.
