Radeon HD 6990 vs GeForce GTX 580 on Intel Ivy Bridge!

Post by Apoptosis »

coolaler has taken the time to test an AMD Radeon HD 6990 graphics card versus an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 graphics card on the same exact PC. What makes his testing interesting is that it was done on an Intel Ivy Bridge processor running at 1.8Ghz!

what i don't understand is how the gtx 580 gets a better score on the cpu. if not mistaken should it not given about the same score. in all fairness would the 6990 have the slighty higher score? :)

That is 3Dmark Vantage .. when it was made it, Physx was the new thing .. and was only on PPU ageia physx cards, well nivida bought them out and all their GPUs run physx. So when the CPU test are on the Nivda cards are doing all the work as PPUs not as GPUs. You will see in 3d mark 11 they have rmoved this to make scores real. Also if you want you can install A Nivda card and hacked drivers too boots your CPU socres...

but their is somthing else going on here ... I can get 19908 GPU score off 1x 6970 on A AMD 965 @ 4.0 / DDRII 1333 8gb http://3dmark.com/3dmv/3085701

Looking at the scores, The AMD 6990 would have came out on top, but considering the 580 is just a single core pumping out scores like that I have to call Nvidia the winner. I want to see some Multi Monitor (3D Vision Surround Vs Eyefinity) benchmarks against the 590 vs the 6990.
