You have an older I680 chip set from Nvidia.

There aren't many upgrade options for you, at least not worth while ones.

If I was you, I'd invest in a new motherboard with the newer CPU sockets.
With a $300 budget, you could get a motherboard, power suppoly and some RAM.

Then in a few weeks buy a newer CPU, after the next generation are released and the seasonal high prices have dropped.

Welcome to the forums BTW :drinkers:

Thanks for that,

I have a few issues though that I could do with some help on.

I currently have a Alienware Chassis, and i have a liquid cooled CPU, could I use the liquid cooling system on newer motherboard and CPU?

In your opinion what would be a mid range upgrade board and CPU to get? Are the socket 2011 worth getting?

Cheers

Mid-range price point for the cpu would be a Intel 3.5GHz Core i7-2700K as far as the motherboard goes the Asus P8Z68-V Pro would be a good choice.

You could potentially use the self-contained liquid cooler from the Alienware PC, but without any picutres or any information for it, it may be hard to tell.

You will most likely new a new mounting set for your cooler as the newer sockets are a bit different. Again, if we can get any information and find out who the OEM is, you could possibily order new mounting equipment for it, and it would work on your new PC.

LGA 2011 isn't really considered the mind-range more like upper high-end. How much are you willing to spend? What are you going to be using the PC for? Gaming? Rendering? Decoding?
As vbironchef has stated, a LGA 1155 Intel i5-2500K or i7-2600K (or 2700K, essentially a 2600K but clocked 100MHz faster and costs $50 more), with a Z68 or P67 chipset-based board would be nice.

It's a bit more pricey but i'd hold out for the 2011 socket the lower priced models are due out after the first of the year.

They've been changing sockets so often (LGA775, 1366, 1155, 1156, 2011) that to get the best longevity and performance 2011 makes sense. If it's not in the budget 1155 does run sweet I have both 1155 and 1366 and performance wise (other than benchmarks i can't see much difference).

Jumping from the LGA775 ti I5 or I7 should be a huge leap in performance i'm sure you'd be happy with both. I get buyers remorse so i go with the new socket myself.
