3.2E Prescott temp help

Post by Racerboyf1 »

P4 3.2E @ 3.6 (225x16) idle 46c. Load 55c.
1gb (2x512) Corsair pc-3200xl pro @ 225 @ 2.5 3 3 7 (I can't get it over 212 @ 2 2 2 5)
x800xl @ 456/564

I know the Prescott runs hotter than the Northwood that I was using before. I just need to know what is too hot.

Thanks,
Chris

60C should be your max temp when overclocking a prescott

Try to keep below 50C if poss!
You can try lowering the voltage a tad and test for stability, if it's still stable, it will lower your temps!

I lowered the voltage and the idle temps dropped to 42c which is what it was running before running it up to 3.6. 55c is absolute max after playing fear for 45 minutes. Seems to be totally stable with these settings. I'm running the Cooler Master Hyper48, but I have nothing to compare it to because I installed it with the prescott and never ran the stock cooler.

I'd make sure it's stable by running 2 instances of prime95....

55C is fine 8)

Prime95 is the ONE and ONLY true test for stablity. When your computer is prime stable for 24 hrs then your computer is stable.

It's a program which calculates prime numbers.....It's usefull when testing/stressing your system.....It normally finds an unstable overclock prity quickly. Most people will run it for @ least 12hrs to make sure their overclock is stable, some will even do a 78hr run....

Here is my best OC so far. I can browse the web, but I can't run any benchmarks at that speed. It does run good at 3.6 though.

At a stable clock of 3.6 (16x225) 3DMark01 went from 19591 to 22167. 3DMark03 went from 10550 to 12074. 3DMark05 went from 5567 to 5744.

That's a pretty high memory clock speed of 240Mhz. Guess you don't have value ram in there.

The higher you go, the lower it has to be.

A good yard stick is when your system becomes unstable when a certain temperature is reached at a particular clock speed.
