Core Solo/Duo motherboard inquiry

Post by Kerii »

Anyone know if these new 479 motherboards are still compatible with Pentium M's?

The socket seems to match, but I'm not really familiar with much else. (Voltages?)

Thinking about getting one so so I can slap in that M730 I got a while ago and replace one of my current PCs.

Summer's rolling around and having so many computers in one room is turning the office into a freakin oven.

Do you have a list of boards in question? From what I understand nearly every core duo (Yonah) desktop motherboard will also support solo processors (Dothan). Just make sure they are using the 945PM/GM chipset and you should be good to go.

I'd suggest the following i945 based boards:

ASUS N4L-VM -- $140
AOpen i945GTm-VHL -- $225

If you want to go all out and spend some money check out this i975 board

AOpen i975Xa-YDG -- $275

Yeah, sorry, I forgot the link.

And yeah, exactly the one you listed, the ASUS.

Finally have both 479 and PCIe x-16 on a decent motherboard.

Thanks for the help. Now to see to the semantics. :P
