Intel Yorkfield: 8 Cores and ~16MB Cache in 2008

Post by Apoptosis »

After Intel perfects their 45nm process they will begin making desktop and server processors with up to eight cores on a single die. The desktop version will be known as the Yorkfield and the enterprise/server solution will be called Harpertown. Yorkfield is also expected to contain 12MB of shared L2 (some say 16MB) and may comprise of 4xWolfdale chips in a single package. Intel could also cut some corners and put two quad cores (Kentsfield processors) together and have an eight core processor.

This is still far off as Intel still needs to ship the 65-nm quad-core processor known as “Kentsfield” out the door first. We all know these are out there as a number of forums already have numbers posted for them.

Now when everything gets multi threaded PC's are going to fly!!!
Imagine all the F@H cores you can have going at once
