Hi I am new to parts of the computer 'tower' and do not really know what i am doing. The processor i am going to buy ( stated in the title ) is hopefully going to inprove my gaming experience. I getting a bit annoyed with with waiting a long time for a game to load a server and also downloading things. Am i right in thinking that this processor will improve the speed by quite a large amout as i only have a 2.16 GHz processor at the moment ?
Also, how hard is it to put in your own processor ? Would the product be likely to come with instructions of how to install it myself like the nvidia graphics card i bought recently ?
Thanks for reading :drinkers:

Welcome to the forums!

I don't think a ~700MHz speed increase will help with your pc finding game servers! That sound like an internet connection speed issue!
Is it slow playing games against the computer? If yes then the upgrade is worthwhile.
Installing a CPU is very easy to do. just take your time and be carefull. Also make sure the powersupply is unplugged!

You should really try and invest in a pentium D cpu though, they are alot quicker than the celerons. They are alot cheaper now too..........even save for another month if you have to.

Installing a CPU is pretty easy. They do come with instructions.

I had a Celeron once, and I'm never touching another one with a 10 foot pole. Pentium, and Pentium D are better, especially for gaming.

AMD has videos that show you how to uninstall, and install a processor. You can look at those to get an idea. While it won't be exactly the same as 775 socket, it will be very similar.

Like Ken says, it sounds like you have an Internet speed problem, not a cpu speed problem.

And like cyberneticimplant says, a Pentium something would be much better than a Celeron anyway. 8)

Thanks

Okay thanks for your help. Thanks for that web adress as well, i will have a look at that after posting this. I looked on the website where i was going to get the celeron for a pentium D and i think i found one but it has a smaller GHz, also it is about £20 more ... Is it worth it? This is the name of the processor :

Intel Pentium D 820 (2.8GHz) Socket 775 FSB800 2x1MB Cache Retail Boxed Processor

I have a slow loading speed for both gaming online and whilst waiting for games to load a level on a single player campaign. Does this mean i should be getting both a faster internet connection and better processor?

As I said before I have not got much experience with computers at all, so could u please tell me what the "socket" is, and if i need a specific processor with the right "socket" to fit my pc?
Thanks
