Hello All,
I bought a HP Media center TV/PC recently. And here are the specs, I want to ask you some questions as you all know your stuff more than I do.
Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 Viiv
4GB RAM
Intel integrated graphics ( as came from manufacturer)
Windows Vista Home Premium / Media Center
Guys basically this PC is from the manufacturer as it is except that I added 2 GB of RAM extra to already existing 2 GB ram so total 4 GB RAM.
I want to know if,
1. Is this E6400 a good/fast performer?
2. Am I wasting 4GB RAM? Is that too much RAM for a E6400??? or is there any relation to CPU vs RAM?
and in general please give me your thoughts on my PC and how you RATE it?
Thanks.

Well if your using a 64bit OS then 4gb of RAM is good but since there is no good reason to run a 64bit OS then yeah its kinda pointless at this point. Especially considering that by the time 4gb or ram will do you any good we will probably be running DDR3

4gb of ram will do hardly anything for you unless you do some HIGh end graphics work or video editing. I went from 1gb to 2gb and noticed a HUGE difference in making my kids dvd of her graduation over what i had before, but for everyday computing I really dont notice it at all.
Photoshop, adobe premier, ulead video, etc will all benefit from more ram - oh and autocad also ;)
As long as you dont game, that computer should do good for you. If you are a gamer, you will want to upgrade the video card, if you can.

Does vista home come in 64bit?

yes, Vista comes with 64bit.
If you are running Vista, I think 4gig would be helpful as the basic vista's min requirement is like 1gig (and 2gig will run smoothly) and 4gig definitely would help. Though you would need 64bit os to take the advantage.
E6400 should be enough. I would suggest don't use the integrated gfx and opt for a better gfx and the dedicated gfx can help with the performance and free up the ram (even a cheap 7300 card).
E6400 should be a decent cpu for the need.

You have to buy video card.
It's a waste for Core 2 Duo E6400 + 4GB RAM only using IGP

If you intend to play games or want to do some high-end graphics works then get a 7600GT card or buy a 7300.Like others have said, you can do anything with Vista 64 bit+4GB ram+7600GT or 7300.Your integrated graphics is just spoiling the sweet spot u can get from ur PC.

I am in agreement with everyone with regards to the 4GB of ram. A solid Video Card is needed if you're planning on playing games or doing any type of digital photo editing. You've got a great CPU, so there's no worry there.

If you want to play any HD video, you definitely want to get a graphics card. I'd probably go with one of the Nvidia cards.

I would recommend to buy a graphic Card for the money!
