Intel Prescott overclocks at 6009 MHz

Intel's much loved, cool and calm Prescott chip has been overclocked to more than 6009 MHz. A 19 year old Finnish techie, who goes by the handle of Stilt, took his P4 560, 3.60GHz, added much liquid nitrogen into his cooling system and got the Prescott to its blistering speed.
Not bad at all to break 6GHz!

haha... but was it stable?? I want a performance benchmark comparison!

that is so awesome. but i doubt he can run any benchmarks all the way through, if he is even able to boot into windows/linux at all.
also, he's not cooling the GPU or the chipset, which seems odd to me.but that's not the point. the point is that he probably has the fastest commerically available prescott in the world right now.
now if that doesn't get him tons of ladies, i don't know what will.

looks like he is cooling his NB to me.

Looks like the NB is being water cooled.

An A+ for effort.

I'm wondering how much time and $ that little experiment cost?

Come on guys I am not impressed with 6 GHz if all it can do is open the bios. For an o/c to count for anything it has to run the pc @ 100% stability.
The orb should recognize o/c results that can run the full suite only not just the gaming part.

I think we are all impressed more with the effort involoved in breaking 6ghz than the outcome of that overclock. I dont think you could ever concider a dry ice OC to be 100% stable because once your out of dry ice your out of overclock.

Complete waste of time, IMO.
I was more impressed with the guy who fried an egg on top of his Pentium chip.

wow you people suck.... these kind of overclocks are part of what pushes the industry on. with out people willing to test the limits of technology we dont get anywhere. the games you guys play are directly supported by those of us who try to push the edge. This is an awsome achivement, lots of work, and effor goes into this.

Did you guys notice that this thread was from 27 Sep 2004 ??? Breaking the 6GHz mark was a big deal. We are now over 7.2Ghz in May 2005, but still...
Any hardcore overclocker knows how good it feels to get a system to boot or post at a high frequency!

these kind of overclocks are part of what pushes the industry on.
I'm not here to start an argument so I'll just keep this short and sweet.
Intel doesn't need some uberdork from Finland to push the industry. It's competition between manufacturers that pushes the industry. AMD does plenty to keep Intel on their toes.

I doubt any hardcore overclocker will consider a bios boot a success, reguardless of effort. An uberdork is not extreme in my book
