How old is this thing? my service contact at Ricoh has never heard of it. Can you get a pic of the serial tag on the back?

After reading this review here
http://atarimagazines.planetmirror.com/ ... r6000.html
i found out the printer was made in 1988, i have been guaranteed that the printer has a brand new toner thingo, ive got all the cables just need to drivers now.
I have to be honest here, i mainly want to get this printer going for 1 reason, It was given to my brother 2 years ago, He tried for like 2 hours to get it working and he couldnt (hes very very lazy). Now he is a little more grown up but still as immature as ever. I want it going so i can say Look i managed to do something you couldnt, plus its also a free laser printer....

Re: RICOH PC laser 6000
wow.. '88, yeah don't think you're going to get drivers for that. Explains why my service guy never heard of it. It was made before he was born
I went and changed my google wording a little and got M$ site and they say it is part of XP, I went through the printer wizard, low and fricken behold its there
have you tried that one.

Daymn, that is some serious legacy hardware built into XP.
I did wonder if XP might have it, but assumed that it would have automatically picked up the drivers already. Guess I was wrong

Re: RICOH PC laser 6000
14k since '88, not very many prints though that thing. For an office printer from '88 I think it has had to have rolled a couple times. I got a printer here from 2004 that has over 200k through it.

Re: RICOH PC laser 6000
ok after playing around with the printer i found that it has some settings of its own...
Software Mode:
Pro printer
Post Script
HP laster Jet 2
Ricoh/D630 ( Ricoh Diablo 630)
Host Interface
Parallel
Serial Rs-232C
Serial Rs-422A
Auto Line Wrap
Disabled
Enabled
What setting should each on of these be on?
Im using a parallel cable to plug it into my computer so that one is obvious what about the rest?

Re: RICOH PC laser 6000
i found an English Manual for this printer and read into it, and it says that i can code a batch file to swap it from HP LaserJet 2 to Post Script. I did it like so.
echo off
goto %1!
:!
echo To switch from PostScript to HP
echo LaserJet Series 2 Emulation, type:
echo 6000PS HP
goto ext
:HP!
echo statusdict begin >prn
echo 5 setsoftwareiomode >prn
echo end quit ♦ >prn
echo THe Ricoh PC LASER 6000/PS is set
echo for the HP LaserJet Series 2 Emulation.
echo Wait a few seconds for the printer
echo to initialize
:PS!
echo ←⌂0♦ >prn
echo The Ricoh PC LASER 600/PS is set
echo for PostScript operation.
echo WAit a few seconds for the printer
echo to initializa
:exit
and saved it into a .bat file.
But every time i go to run the .bat a little black box comes up for a second and then it disappears... did i do something wrong with the coding?
****************Edit****************** Could this be showing that their is possible data loss??

Re: RICOH PC laser 6000
I'm not what you would call batch file leet but don't really see what that does, most of it is just printing to the screen (ECHO), the goto command doesn't go anywhere (no LABEL), you don't have a PAUSE before the EXIT command so you don't have time to read it, and I don't have a clue what the :! :HP! or :PS! lines do...you have a link to this manual?
Re: RICOH PC laser 6000
It came out of a user manual i dug up, (i rang around to most of the local larger companies)
and i was mainly doing this to see if the computer could actually send anything to the printer, but atm it looks like the Parallel cable is a but stuffed.

After getting a NEW new cable which has a parrallel port on one end and some Funky printer port on the other i got it to print a microsoft Windows Test page but it came out like this.
My first assumptions was that my computer isnt sending it in the right format?

Re: RICOH PC laser 6000
Looks like the wrong option is set up.
Try adding the printer again, chose the Post Script option in the setup.
Then set the printer to Post Script, Parallel interface, and try line wrap set to disabled.
See what that gets you, starting to run out of ideas on this one.
