I hear you on the overclocking. I thought I would never overclock and now I find it a challenge and very enjoyable.

The E6750 overclocks like a dream and has lots of built-in headroom. You can easily get it to 3.2Ghz with no drastic changes or voltage increases.

My specs are in my sig and here are the steps I took:

Increase FSB to 400Mhz
Lock PCIE at 100Mhz
Manually set CPU Vcore at 1.35v as some motherboards will automatically overcompensate due to the FSB increase, thus creating unnecessary heat. With boards with moderate to severe vdroop, you may need to add a tenth or two volts.
Set the Ram to 1:1, which is 2.00...synchronous, which is perfect as your ram is then running at true 800Mhz.
Check CPU-z to make sure your ram timings are set to advertised specs. Mine never budged from 5-5-5-18.
I did add 0.1v to my ram, but I don't think it was even necessary. For cheaper ram, it may be.
You can disable CIE (speedstep) if you wish, but I left it enabled and never had an issue.

I also overclocked my EVGA 8800GTS using Rivatuner which turned out to be extremely easy. My first use for Rivatuner was to control my GPU fan speed. Now I use it to overclock as well.

My rig never had a single issue with this overclock. It has never failed to boot, and I've never had a BSOD or a lockup. (knock on wood) To check your ram, run memtest. To check overall system stability run Prime95 or Orthos for a few hours. With such a good CPU and modest overclock, you should not have any issues unless your motherboard is a complete pile of junk.

Here are the results of the overclock in case you're interested:

Specs:
FSB from 333Mhz to 400Mhz
CPU from 2.66Ghz to 3.2 Ghz
Ram from 667Mhz to 800Mhz

3DMark06:
STOCK - 11,579
Overclocked - 13,468

Temps:
CPU - idle 36c, load 57c
GPU - idle 44, load 60c

Temps did not increase with mild overclock.

Whether you overclock or not, the E6750 is a solid, stable workhorse of a CPU, enjoy!

I actually did, or at least tried to run benchmarks on my machine, but 3dmark would make my machine blue screen. I have read in Maximum PC that on lots of later hardware, 3dmark06 does not run well on newer hardware. Any other benchmarking packages that you could recommend?

There is no reason that 3DMark06 should cause a BSOD on your machine. Your motherboard is similar to mine in the fact that its a P35 board with Intel chipsets, we have the same CPU and basically the same ram except that I have 4GB.

I would uninstall your copy of 3DMark06 and reinstall it. Maybe even try getting it from a different source like Guru3D.com.

You could run Lightsmark, but I think that 3DMark06 is a much better indicator of overall system performance.

Games like Crysis even have a benchmark you can run.

If you're getting BSOD on 3dmark, then there's a problem. That is a fresh install of windows right?

Lol, just finished stress testing (24hrs) my first overclock (first build, too, kinda, other one doesn't count) yesterday and now I'm tempted to get a Celeron E1200 just to see how high I can drive it. I'd love to get a work bench test system (PSU/MB/RAM/CPU Cooler). I probably will eventually, funds and space permitting.

Wouldn't attempt anything radical with my incoming Q6600, though.

I should see what I can do. Maybe return my card to stock clock?

All right, I fixed the BSODs. I uninstalled all the ASUS crap, except the driver. That did the trick. I will post the benchmark when I get it later tonight.

Alright I benchmarked the system. It has a 3dmark score of... :( 7083. Well, I do not expect that much from an 8500 GT OC'd to 702 mhz. Oh, and ibleet, I also ran a stress test. Used Prime95. Good stress test. Is six hours enough?

I would say that if it ran for 6 hours with no warnings or errors, then you're GOLDEN! Congrats! What were your core temps at peak?

Actually with that video card, your score isn't that bad. My AMD system with an Asus crosshair, 2.66Ghz 5200 and 7900GS only scores 4800.

Okay, temps for the CPU are around 38 C for the cpu and the gpu full burn temps are around 68 C. For the idle temps, 25 C and 52 C respectively. These are both on stock cooling. I have not considered the idea of an aftermarket cooler. You think I might need it?

I overclocked my E6750 to 3.2Ghz with no increase to voltage or temps all on stock cooling...You don't need afermarket cooling.

Alright, everyone, thanks for your help. I really appreciate it, and I always will. You gave me my rig, and probably without your help, I would have spent a whole lot more and had a lot less power at my disposal. Thank you all! :finga: :partyman: :supz:

if you do decide to overclock, look into this cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835124019

This thing easily rivals the top air coolers out there for much less money

I cannot endorse that cooler as I've never had one, but I can fully recommend this Arctic Freezer 7 Pro that I put on a Q6600. 8)

Just look at the reviews if you want unbiased opinions.
