Fast forward to 2008, the Cryo-Z has been considered vaporware by many since the product has sat unavailable to interested enthusiasts for over two years. The stacked Cryo-Z images have faded from enthusiast’s minds, but never out of their hearts. Bring up the company name OCZ in any forums and you are sure to receive a message from someone begging for the Cryo-Z to be released post haste.
Today is finally the day when we can tell you more about the OCZ Technology Cryo-Z. The information that we have gathered is not from a press release nor an assumption based on seeing the unit at a technology show. This is in fact real hands on with the unit, sitting at the Secret Bunker of Technology.
As of now, OCZ Technology has not stated an official date for when the Cryo-Z will be released to the public or at what cost. We learned that the unit will be made available on PC Power’s website for America only; this after each unit has been tested by hand. The compressor for the Cryo-Z will only operate at 110 Volts so Europe and Asian markets will not have the opportunity to purchase the first units. It remains to be seen whether or not the Cryo-Z will be replaced by a second model, but from everything I have gathered the Cryo-Z has gone through a limited production run, and when these units sell out they will be gone forever.
The biggest problem I have with the Cryo-Z is the build quality. If the rumors are true then it is this reason why we are just now starting to see these coolers being made available to the public. If all of the units OCZ has in stock are like our sample then there will be a few people who are not going to be satisfied with the product based on appearance alone. OCZ is going to have to be creative with selling these units. Maybe a disclaimer to the case’s build quality will need to be put on PC Power’s website or another run of cases can be made. Many enthusiasts have taken their Mach II products and placed them inside Lian Li V2000 cases, a conversion that takes little effort. Maybe OCZ can purchase a number of V2000 cases and make the best phase change cooler ever by doing the mod themselves and bundling the case with the phase change system, and delivering it to enthusiasts under a 599 price point.
599 is way to much if they want to sell these. at this point you could buy one of those other ones that they sell on newegg, and you could also get similar teps usin a tec and chilled water.
