Hello

Post by aircommando13 »

I have been interested in computers for a while now and recently I just started building a new budget gaming rig. I was interested in this site because it sounds like people are serious about what they're doing, and know what they are talking about. So, off to my computer specs. Well just look and see.

Old Hardware
CPU: intel pentium 3 at 700MHz
RAM: 384MB(3 X 128)
MOBO: dont remember
PSU: 200 watt
VGA: integrated TNT 2 Pro
HD: 80GB @ 5200RPM
Case: Old beige style

New Hardware
CPU: intel core 2 duo e4500 at 2.2 GHz
RAM: Patriot 2Gb (2 X1GB) at 4-4-4-12
MOBO: XFX 630i with 7150 built in
X-power 550 watt
XFX 9600 GT XXX
HD: Raptor 150GB @ 10,000RPM*
Antec 900 case*

*not yet purchased

So obviously this a long overdue upgrade, I think i got this in 1998 or 1999, not sure which. By the way if you are wondering what the TNT Pro 2 is, it's one of the first chipsets Nvidia ever made, according to Wikipedia the 5th. I do not yet have the hard drive or the case, but i will soon. I have not yet assembled all the other parts, but needless to say it will be jaw-dropping to see the difference between the two systems. i will post a benchmark comparison to show you guys.

Anyway back to the point of the post. I am not an AMD or Intel fan, but I am most familiar with Intel and i hear they are better for 3D architecture programs that I deal with day to day.

For gaming, I was restricted of course by my computer from the newer ones like Crysis and Bioshick(I would probably get negative FPS rates!). I usualy played RTS games like age of empires 1 and 2, though 2 ran rather slow. After I get all my parts together though it won't matter what type of game I play. FPS, RPG, RTS, i think i will love them all!

As far as overcocking I have no experience there, but I plan on getting a decent zalman cooler for the E4500 CPU and overclocking it to 3.0GHz.
Intel E8500 @ 4.0GHz
4GB(2 x 2GB) DDR2 800MHz
EVGA 750i SLI FTW
Seagate 7200.11 500GB HD
EVGA GTX 260 55nm
Antec 630 watt PSU
Samsung 22x DVD/+/-RW Burner
Antec p182 Case

Welcome :) As far as your new build goes, have fun and I would recommend a second hard drive for storage.
