Hello, I'm in the process of building a new machine, and had planned on putting in a e8400, but since they are near impossible to find (except one Ebay), I starting reading a lot about the q6600, and did some research on Toms hardware, I was looking at the CPU Charts, and I noticed that the q6600 rates better than the e8400... here's my build
Antec 900 case, Antec Quattro 850 psu, Abit IP35 PRO mobo, Sapphire hd3870 512md-ddr4 "toxic", and 4X1gb Patriot 1066 viper mem...
So what's the best way to go.. I am stuck.. I do a lot of work in Flash8, Gaming, and some Video Editing,.
Any insight would be great, can't decide if the quad core would be that beneficial.. It doesn't OC as well, and I am not sure if most video programs can utilize quad cores... on the other hand... the e8400 doesn't quite benchmark as well as the q6600..
I'm terribly undecided, and planning on ordering on friday so that I can get those wonderful F**' 'n rebates sent in before they expire... any help would be greatly appreciated...
Intel e8400 vs q6600.. which one?

Surely somebody has to have an opinion on this...

Personally i went with the E6850, and i am loving it. If you plan not to overclock the E6850 is a better choice for gaming because of the higher Ghz.
Main Rig: C2D 6850 @ 3.0Ghz, 2Gb DDR2667Mhz @ 833Mhz 5-5-5-15 Timings , XFX xXx 8600GTS @ 730/2260 , Gigabyte Ga-945GCM-S2L

It depends on what you do the most. There are currently no games that I'm aware of that support quad cores, although they do help with programs running in the background. If gaming is your primary concern, get the E8400. If gaming is secondary, then get the Q6600. They are both excellent choices as they both overclock like mad. The quad may be a bit more future proof, but this is the present, not the future. You can't go wrong either way imo.
I'm not sure how an E6850 entered the mix, but it is an excellent cpu, as is the E6750, but neither is up to par with the E8400.

depends on what applications you are using and how they are threaded... if you check e-mail or game on the weekends it doesn't really matter what you get. If you do video editing with software like Sony Vegas all the time then quad-core is the way to go.
