I have to go out now so read on and let's start hating Creative! I know I won't by anymore Creative products if I'll ever need them again.

Ok, for him to make it work in Vista like it did in XP after they said it couldn't do it (but for some reason Dell systems could) they are going to bust him. Thats stupid.

Think they are sore from being called out on something they said couldn't be done for anyone other than Dell.

Think this guy from the Creative forums is on the right track if this is truly how they are going to be with customers.

I won't be restocking any Creative products once I sell my existing inventory, and the inventory that I can still return to my distrubutor, I will do so on Monday.

I will suggest that others do the same, I don't feel confident that Creative will provide future support for their products.

Disgusting. I have always supported their products, but this is bravo sierra. I think I'm done with them.

this guy did Creative and their customers a favor. i don't see how they are going to charge him with stealing their product when the product in question is a working set of drivers for Vista, which they don't seem to have...

Is Asus the standard to follow now? Do Asus sound card work better in Vista or does Turtle Beach? Who is better as it is obvious to me that Creative is no longer worth supporting. I have over the years purchased six different Creative sound cards and even a Creative video card when they did that. But no more.

Unless Creative capitulates 100% on what they have done to this guy and actually puts full functionality back in to their drivers for all the current as well as legacy (say back to the first Audigy) stuff in Vista I just won't ever by another Creative product.

Knowing that the above won't happen who then is the best at getting functional drivers out for their sound cards and provides real support for their products old and new? That I think is worthy of a review being written.

As it is on the Creative support forums I'm inclined to believe it. Though you have to grudgingly give them props for not removing the thread. http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs ... ing&page=1

Be sure to check page 236 where a reply from Daniel_K is posted.

The part I like is that Creative drivers look for Vista and disable features that would otherwise work.

So the part where he enabled the creative tech on any soundcard is probably a bit too much, but creative telling him to stop releasing drivers that work for vista where theirs don't is just criminal of them.

I disagree with you there Dan. If I bought a soundcard just for that (insert feature) feature, then I'd like to be able to use that feature on any OS since my soundcard is supposed to be able to do that problem free. But, if the drivers lack that feature even a year after Vista came out, then something is going on.

Also, I updated the main post with a link that shows Daniel's response to Creative.

I didn't mean giving the cards the same functionality in vista that they had in XP, but things like enabling DDL on cards that shouldn't have it (was it requires licensing, and could well get creative in trouble if they leave it unchecked) and to a lesser degree, giving any Creative card with a P17 chip Xfi capabilities (which is getting more than what you paid for, but that one not as much  ).

But the way they went about this was also completely out of line.

Does Turtle Beach and the other sound cards support OpenAL and EAX as well as creative does? Or do they support them at all? I don't know but I thought if you wanted the best overall support for computer audio there was no other choice...

I've got a C-Media sound card in my machine now. Maybe I should add it to my signature. :P

All of C-Media cards work with many OSs too, except for the 8768 series.

Mine is a old card. Here's a linky to C-Media :
