Great review on Vista 64 bit. What caught my eye was the World in Conflict (WiC) testing that was done. I am inquiring if during your testing you were able to see whether or not the application was able to push all 4 AMD cores under Vista 64-bit?
The reason why I am asking is because I just bought the Phenom 9500, very cheap, and installed WiC to do a benchmark in my system, which is also Vista 64-bit. I was disappointed that the game was only pushing one core. The other 3 cores were not really doing anything. I tried several games and I got the same result, only one core was being pushed. I loaded Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 64-bit edition, copied over the gameux.dlls to the two directories under Windows, and the same result there, which was that only one core was being pushed. (Edit) The system, both software and OS, was patched on all benchmarks.
I have a dual core AMD system, and both cores are being pushed in that system. AMD also put out an optimization pack for the dual cores to increase gaming performance, but I did not see one for the quad-core.
Any help or information on what you did for the games to use all four cores will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
System Specs:
Windows Server 2008 Enterprise 64-bit
Phenom 9500
4GB DDR2 Ram
500GB SATA HD
512MB Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT

Do you have all the game patches installed and all available Widows updates? Next time I fire up the Phenom system I'll check each cores usage levels.

Thanks for the quick reply!
Yes, I downloaded all patches for Vistsa, Server 2008 x64, GeForce 8600GT, and WiC. I ran the WiC benchmark in windowed mode.
I just went back to your article:

and the Phenom killed the AMD A64 6400+ in all benchmarks up to that point.....then they were both "equal" in WiC.
I looked a the Crisis, and the AMD A64 6400+ actually beat the Phenom.
Those are the only two games you guys benchmarked against, but I am beginning to wonder if these games are only seeing one core and not four. I still could not find any AMD Optimization software for the quad-core, still only for the dual core.
Thanks a ton for looking into your system when you get a chance. I was very disappointed in the performance and I ran the WiC test in windowed mode and that is when I saw the one core maxxed and the other there just sitting there.
