Post by HONkUS »

Forgive my ignorance, I haven't owned Intel in a decade.

I know Xeon's are for workstations and servers but spec wise whats the difference between Xeons and C2Q?

The new Xeon processors use an LGA771 socket shown below with the Intel QX9775 processor.

LGA771 is used in Intel's most recent DP-capable server processors, the Dual-Core Xeons codenamed "Dempsey" and "Woodcrest" and the Quad-Core Clovertown, as well as the new generation of Core 2 Extreme processors. As its name implies, it is a land grid array with 771 contacts. The "J" in "Socket J" refers to the now-cancelled processor codenamed "Jayhawk", which was expected to debut alongside this interface, but was canceled when Tejas was back in 2004. It is the successor to Socket 604 and takes much of its design from LGA 775.
