975XBX2KR - no hard disk & PXE-E61

Post by kavustock »

I installed a Western Digital 74GB Raptor hard drive and cabled it to the SATA 0 port. I then installed the only cheap component that I purchased a Philips DVD drive (SPD2415BD, interface: ATAPI/E-IDE) as the master and connected the IDE cable to the board and the DVD drive.

I powered up the system, it says that no arrays is defined (which I expected) then it says that no hard disk is detected.

It gets to the "Initializing and establishing link . . . . " section that then provides me with this error:

PXE-E61: Media Test Failure, Check Cable

I did swap the SATA cable to no effect.

When I look at the BIOS, the SATA section shows the Western Digital Drive and the at the bottom of that section it lists the Philips DVD drive too (is it supposed to be down there?).

Any ideas how to fix the problem? Should I consider at trip to the local Best Buy to purchase a SATA CD/DVD player, would that work better?

Solved. I found the error code at Intel's site under "Other Boot Issues." http://www.intel.com/support/motherboar ... m#pxeerror

The solution is to go into the BIOS, to the Boot section, then disable "Boot to network." I threw a XP Professional DVD in there and it appears that I am good to go with the OS Install now.
