Re: Official Cool Tech Thread.....
Now that sucks, I had an idea for a mp3 player that rips cds like that a year or two ago but I didn't pursue it cause I didn't think it would be all that safe for your cds (imagine accidentally letting it rub against something). My solution, something that telescopes around to protect the cd but folds back up when using as a mp3 player...oh well, I've got plenty of other $1000000 ideas...now just to find the financial resources...

Its a jigsaw puzzle circuit board with an embedded LED. So when you assembly it and set it on a 9V battery its a lamp. Its a geek desktop conversation starter.kappage wrote:What does it do?

Re: Official Cool Tech Thread.....
Now this is cool, it will trace a 3D model from a video for use in, say, Google Earth or Second Life...
http://www.acvt.com.au/research/videotrace/VideoTrace: Rapid interactive scene modelling from video
VideoTrace is a system for interactively generating realistic 3D models of objects from video—models that might be inserted into a video game, a simulation environment, or another video sequence. The user interacts with VideoTrace by tracing the shape of the object to be modelled over one or more frames of the video. By interpreting the sketch drawn by the user in light of 3D information obtained from computer vision techniques, a small number of simple 2D interactions can be used to generate a realistic 3D model. Each of the sketching operations in VideoTrace provides an intuitive and powerful means of modelling shape from video, and executes quickly enough to be used interactively. Immediate feedback allows the user to model rapidly those parts of the scene which are of interest and to the level of detail required. The combination of automated and manual reconstruction allows VideoTrace to model parts of the scene not visible, and to succeed in cases where purely automated approaches would fail.

That is awesome bubba! They need those for RC planes, then I might be couragous enough to try that hobby. Though that would probably make you get motion sickness. Can you imagine how bumpy of a ride that would be?
