More details coming out on ATI AMR (ATI Multi Rendering) this week. This is what can be made so far:
ATI will make its SLI work without a small printed circuit board (PCB) to interconnect the cards.
ATI AMR will be able to use Alternate Frame Rendering.
You will need 1 master card and 1 slave card.
You can't set the cards to master or slave like an ide device. You have to buy them both for their specific purpose as they are manufactured as master or slave.
ATI has not said that you will be to run a slave or just a master - so if you want to go AMR you might have to shell out a ton of money all at once.
3rd party manufactures do not like this idea.
They have said "screw you" to ATI and do NOT want to have to make two versions of the same thing and market them differently.
As of now, ATI will be the only manufacturer of the master boards, and as such, probably the only choice if you want a dual card setup.
No word on performance, and I the image quality implications of the VGA to VGA dongle, if true, will be interesting.
