Economic Stimulus... any big plans?

Post by DaIceMan »

Just curious how everyone was planning to utilize our economic stimulus payments. Mine was finally direct deposited today. I'm going to pick up my boys some new bikes, give my daughter $100 (at 16, a new bike probably isn't high on her list hehe) and pick up a couple medical bills that have been floating around too long.

Only computer plans I have is to order a few parts to finish modding my Antec Nine Hundred. Already picked up an extra drive cage to give it the full mesh front. Gonna order Scythe fans to replace the LED tricools. Should be quieter and certainly darker in the PC room. Gonna go for the slim line mod a lot of folks are doing. I'll start with a DVD drive from a laptop, and eventually order a slot load. My 2 DVD drives already have homes waiting, and I'll probably shoehorn the fans into the Sonata III to cool down the Frankenbeast some. Not sure, but I might even order an Antec Three Hundred to give the beast a new home.

Any remaining funds are going into savings to cover the next crisis that always seems to arise at the most inopportune moment.

Pay off some doctor bills too, I wanted a new stove and frig thats going to have to wait till bonus time.

I might pick up a couple hard drives. Start buying my new rig a part at a time instead of all at once like I want to.

Ours is going to help pay off a car early. Mama is working 1/2 time starting in September, so trying to pay off as much as possible before then.

Build my first computer!

I finally have no excuse to not purchase all of the parts, my last escuse around tax return time was that I didn't get as much as I had hoped, and I had to buy an engagement ring, and I didn't end up having to buy one anyway.

It took all of my willpower to not blow it on a PS3 and GTA4.

Come on people, this is a rare opportunity to do something fun with 'free' money!

Me? I'm going to enjoy spending every penny on plastic vapor lock, drywall, mud, tape, and paint! I don't know if the English language is capable of constructing sentences that would convey the excitement and joy that these purchases are creating inside of me!
It is going to be so awesome, I can't wait until I..................

Okay, fine. My plans are easily some of the most boring I can imagine. Please pardon my feeble attempts to cheer myself up.

They aren't working...

Well I'm self-employed so I end up paying in every year. My stimulus check was gobbled up by my income tax. No fun here. :(

Trust me, paying off medical bills (or credit cards as was mentioned) IS fun. Not having that stuff showing up in my mailbox every month will give me more joy than you can possibly imagine.

Combined with Graduation money (May 18th), I'll be buying an SSD, probably the OCZ 32GB or something similar to that in price range. Going straight in the laptop, and I'm just gonna laugh as Ubuntu flies

If you go with Satellite, let me know... I'll hook you up with a referral and save us both some money. ;)

I have DirecTV, and aside from some stupidity issues with "customer service", the actual service is great. My buddy has Dish network, and has had the same receiver for like 10 years. Good for reliability, but I'm more of a "New Stuff?... yes, please" kind of guy. He doesn't have any interest in HD. Guess once I get everything set back up in my basement I'll have to change his mind.
